    Okay, need some help...

Love my new Prius, just one little problem.

When I'm using the AUX line in and my mp3 player, I get this loud "pop" between songs. Anyone else have this happen? I've adjusted the volume on the player, the volume on the Prius and nothing seems to help. Suggestions?

    Thanks!

It's a Sansa 4gb player. I'm using a line-in cord from Target if that helps. It's only happening in that brief pause between songs. Other than that, the sound is perfect.

Does it make this noise if the MP3 player is not plugged in to the 12V charger?

(I'm thinking of getting a Sansa too, btw)

Do you have it plugged into a car charger?

I think the pop is from the player, not the Prius. The suggestions about the power supply are worth checking.

In response to the questions about the charger, no the player isn't hooked up to the charger when the pop happens. Do you think that using the charger would eliminate the noise?

No. If anything, using the charger could exacerbate the problem. I just wanted to eliminate that possibility.

To determine if the problem is with your player, you may need to try a different MP3 player (or several different ones).

I think the player is making the pop. It's probably not audible when listening through ear buds, but gets amplified by the stereo in the Prius. You need to try some other audio sources.

Thank you all for your suggestions-I'll try some other sources this weekend. Additionally, I've been approaching the problem with Sandisk, the maker of my mp3 player. They thought that if there is a volume associate with just the input jack to turn that down. I don't know of one-does anyone think there is such a thing?

Yes, the volume of the input jack is the master volume on your JBL stereo. With an external player, such as an MP3 device, you can control the sound volume by changing the volume on the MP3 device or by changing the volume on the stereo. The normal method is to set the volume on the stereo while listening to the radio or a CD, then switch to the AUX setting and adjust the volume on your MP3 player to get the same sound level. With our MP3 cell phones, this means full volume on the MP3 player, but it will vary from model to model.

If you have the volume turned way down on the MP3, and make up for it with the stereo, then you have to use very high stereo volume settings, which will also amplify annoying sounds such as the click between tracks.

We're tried high volume on the stereo and low on the mp3 player, we've tried low on the stereo and high on the player, we've tried medium for both. Still get the pop, though with different intensity.

Don't really recall which setting resulted in the loudest pop. Tried using a different mp3 last night (an iPod, actually) and there was no pop whatsoever. So, it seems like it might be associate with the player and not the car stereo or the wire connecting the two.

I have a similar thing happen with my ipod (2nd Gen). Instead of "Pop", it makes a high pitched sound after every few songs. My fix is to turn down the volume on the ipod and up the stereo. I know you tried this but it works for me. Good luck on your search.

That would be the hard-drive spinning up. Typical for the 1st and 2nd gen's.

OK I have had the same problem, it happened with the iRiver h10 20g and the Creative Zen Xtra 40g it is NOT the MP3 player, but rather the audio cable itself. I was using an iSimple audio cable, which is specifically designed for use in cars. However, it worked for about a week, then the popping came, at first just between songs and at acoustic, or otherwise silent parts of the song. Eventually it got to the point where i heard it all the time. Figuring that it was the cable i went into my house and got a different cable, some cheapo one that i used to port sound from my computer to my T.V. After that the popping went away and i haven't heard it since. Oh yes, i remember what it was now, an RCA STEREO MINI 1/8" 6' audio cable, i tried looking for it at bestbuy.com but could not find it. However if you walk in and go to the audio section you should be able to find it. it'll be in a red package with a bunch of other RCA products. If you can't find it go with dynex, either one should set you back less than 8 bucks. I know all this because i work there. hope that helps you out, and if not those items are easily returnable with no open item fees.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check that out later today!

Later that day: I picked up the cord at Best Buy (got the dynex, because I couldn't find the RCA). Tried it out and STILL get the pop! This is a little frustrating! Not blaming any of you; just want to fix this already!

With low volume on the stereo and high volume on the player, the pop isn't bad, but it is still there.

So, to recap: "pop" between songs. Tried other player: no pop. Tried new cord: pop. Seems to point in the direction of the player....
