Occasionally the cruise control stops working on my 2006 Prius. After some time it starts working again. Stopping the car and powering off the car does not result in the cruise control working when I repower up the car. (If I leave the power off for a number of hours, then the cruise control works when I power on.) Does anyone know what is going on?

My wife, who has been driving our Prius recently, said that our CC would work intermittently. A couple weeks ago, some warning lights came on, resulting in a trip to the dealer. The result was a new brake light switch. The tech said that a bad brake light switch would cause the CC not to engage.

See this thread for my full story about the warning lights.

Also, if the Prius is like my Celica, brake fluid levels could be at fault. A leaky fluid level disengaged my Celica until I identified it... Actually, several possibilities could be at fault if you have access to a wiring diagram.

Our CC has an issue too. I don't think it's worth takeing it in for warranty repair though, imo. It's the activation button you push, on the tip of the controls. We have to push it firmly, or CC won't engage. Any chance you're talking the same type of 'intermittent' issue? Give it a try ... and see if the CC engaged light comes on (it's on the dash).

The CC has been working lately, so I cannot check out whether or not your suggestion is on target or not. I will check it out as soon as the CC stops working again.
