how to remove dash buttons

If you are talking about the buttons that open the glove box doors, I just ordered the parts to do this job myself.

The buttons are part of the lock assembly. After examining the NEW lock assembly very carefully I have come to the conclusion that you must replace the entire assembly. It it relatively easy to do so. Remove the center ac duct assy by pulling straight towards you. It is on clips and should release. Remove the lock assy cover and the lock assy with just a few screws. Re-install in reverse order.

 

Update: 2005 Package 7
I completed the work last night. I also replaced the upper glove box door for the same cosmetic reasons

Here are the procedures for both:

Replace the Glove Compartment Door Lock Assembly:
1. Located behind the Instrument Panel AC Register Assembly immediately to the left of the Glove Box Door is a screw that must be removed to replace the lock assembly. This is how I did this step it seems scary but I did not break anything and other website references also indicate that you won't break it if you are careful. ... Using your fingers at the top edge where it meets the main part of the dash, forcefully "pop" the top edge directly toward you. It should release relatively easily and come out about 1/4 of one inch or so. This releases the upper two latches. Repeat this at the bottom edge to release the bottom two latches. Now with one hand on top and one hand on the bottom "pop" the assembly straight towards you about 1/4 of an inch or so. This will release the center latches. The assembly will now pull gently free.
2. Remove the Door Lock Cover - This was perhaps the most difficult. There are a number of latches that must be released. Basically with your fingers above and below at the inside edge forcefully "pop" the cover and it will give. Repeat this across the entire length of the cover. Eventually all latches will release and the cover will come off easily at that point.
3. Remove the screws, install the new assembly and re-attach with the screws. It self-aligns so there are no issues.
4. Just "pop" the cover back into place
5. Carefully align the Instrument Panel AC Register Assembly and slide it into position. Then "pop" it into place. Remember there are latches in the top, bottom and center. Make sure that the assembly is properly secured.

Replace the Glove Compartment Door
WARNING: This is not in the Service Manual!! On MY 2005 package 7 There is a wiring harness connector attached to the BACK of this assembly. The wires are VERY fine! Be Careful!!
1. Remove the two round screw covers located on the lower half of the back. I found this to be very difficult. I used a sharp knife blade and scratched up one.
2. Remove both screws
3. Grab the two protruding areas near the door hinge points and "pop" the assembly directly towards you. Both sides should release and it is ready to be pulled out.
4. OBSERVE the orientation of the wiring harness connector. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the assembly being very careful not to damage these delicate wires!
5. Attach this wiring harness connector to the new assembly and carefully align the connector into the cavity as you slide the assembly back together.
6. "Pop" the assembly back into place
7. Re-install the screws and screw covers. Note: The right screw on my car would not re-tighten. I have no solution for this yet. I suspect I will replace the screw with a larger one. For the moment, I consider it a non-issue.
