I know the Treo 650 is not yet released to the general public, but does anyone know if the bluetooth functionality works 100% with the Prius?

that is the question of the month for those of us who hang around both here and treocentral.

all we know for sure so far is that the handsfree bluetooth profile IS enabled in the 650

Got my Treo 650 last night. Great device.

Unfortunately, does not pair with the Prius.

I go to the Bluetooth setup for the Prius and gets it to the point where the screen says initiate search from the phone.

I search for the car from the T650 and finds it. I try to connect. The passkey is asked for. I enter the passkey. T650 says the car is now paired and you are set.

HOwever, the Prius stays on the same screen. I have to hit "cancel" to get out.

Hopefully, Sprint can issue a patch?

    ANy thoughts?

It's good enough of a convergence device for the rest of my life (email, etc.) that I'll have to give up the bluetooth (hopefully temporarily). It's back to my Jabra BT headset!

I agree and believe any Treo 650 bluetooth pairing issues with the Prius will be resolved fairly quickly. I know several other members will be getting 650's as well. I am hoping CompUSA will carry the 650 soon since I have replacement credit for our Treo 300 with them. There is a web site called Let's Talk that provides pairing information for various phones and toyota vehicles but the 650 hasn't been added yet. Please let us know how the 650 interacts with the Prius once you find a way to complete the pairing.

This is rather upsetting, I'm expecting a T650 on Tuesday. Has anyone called PalmOne or Toyota yet to see if this is a known issue?

pshady - I'm going to attempt and call 1-800-GO TOYOTA, perhaps they can shed some light on this. I'm also on hold presently with PalmOne to see if they are aware of the issue. I figure the more of us that call and complain, the sooner one of them will fix this.

Hi all- My wife loves her '04 prius, and loved the BT hands free feature which we initially used with a Sony Ericsson T608. It worked fairly well- Sometimes you had to dial a number twice if you didn't use the on-screen quick-dial menu. The phone was awfully small and had no kind of battery life, and no good PDA functions either. I've always loved my Treo 600, and talked her into ordering a Treo 650 which we just got today.

Unfortunately I ran into the same exact problem that pshady did.

I did find an (unacceptable) workaround to get the phone to work with the handsfree system though. After you go through the process of pairing the phone to the handsfree, just ignore the message on the Prius screen (don't hit cancel) and dial out with your phone. The "bluetooth connection sucessful" message will pop up, and the call will go through the handsfree system. This only seems to work once, though. I haven't been able to get it to work otherwise. Sometimes when you boot up the car, it'll say connection successful, but when you try to dial via the prius screen, it'll say "check phone"...

This seems to suggest that the problem with the Treo is minor, and can probably be fixed fairly easily with a patch. I just hope it's available quickly- I had a similar problem with my 600 not working properly with a car kit and it took a LONG time for the patch to come out... I think we sould keep each other updated on here with any news or ideas about this... It's just too cool of a feature to not be working! :)

Well thanks for the info! I'm expecting mine on Tuesday as well - I don't know if I can stand it though. I may have to cancel the order until this is fixed :-(

Just to make sure everyone is kept up to date on the status of this issue, I wanted to cross reference this thread with the TreoCentral thread located here.

I did lodge complaints today with both PalmOne Tech Support and Toyota's customer call center. Neither knew of the issue, but PalmOne did acklnowledge that Toyota (and Lexus) weren't in the list of "supported" devices. At least not yet.

Anyhow, I'd encourage ALL of you who care about this to call P1 and Toyota ASAP, as the more calls they receive, the faster they will address this issue. See the TreoCentral thread linked above for more info on how this is also an issue for Acura TL owners who apparently are having the same issues.

I don't have this phone and doubt anyone could overlook it, but is there some different place in the Treo Menu that you have to go to enable the BT to be on continuously?

A few other people, with different phones, had similar problems where going through the set up and all everything was fine, but once that initial connection was lost they had to go through the process again until finding the area to enable the BT to be on constantly.

Might be worth playing around the menus on the Treo to see if there's something like that. If it's been tried I apologize for nosing in.

i will look around for that but there are only a couple of choices on the bluetooth prefs screen for the treo. and the icon appears on the phone screen all the time once you set the b/t to 'on'.

How about the "allow wakeup mode" vs. having it off? It doesn't seem like this should be the problem...... I was successful on pairing the phone using the "trick" described above (worked for one call). Haven't been able to reconnect since.

From Treocentral, someone posted the fact that the bluetooth stack appears as a file on the device. He's going to hex edit it and take a look. Perhaps a smartie on Priuschat can take a look and figure it out for us.

Yep, I already tried keeping discoverable mode on, and changing the "Bluetooth wakeup" to on... no difference... Even tried changing the default PIN and the device label to different things with same results.

Another note- If you have paired the car and phone already, my wife and I have found that, after starting the car up (I call it booting up), you'll see the "bluetooth connection successful" message, and if you then *quickly* dial out with the Prius's onscreen quickdial menu, (like within 5-10 seconds) you can make *one* call through the handsfree system. It seems to do this pretty consistantly. Likewise with an incoming call. Haven't tried this using the phone's keypad. My wife's pretty sensitive about her baby, doesn't like me starting up/shutting down too much

Wait too long to dial after you start the car though, and you're out of luck until you shut down and boot up again.

A better, but still unacceptable workaround!

My wife called Sprint tonight and formally lodged her complaint about the phone/car problem. She was told "It's a known issue, and I expect that there will be a fix available fairly quickly, since we know that's why people buy these products with bluetooth". So that sounds reassuring.... (knock on wood)

I sent a quick note to my contact at Palm One (not a personal friend, just someone who gave me his business card & is responsible there).

I sent it yesterday and got a reply at 4am today!

No info yet - just forwarding my information to someone else with a request for information & noting that the Prius is a great car.

I'll let you know if I hear anything more.

I sent PalmOne a query last night after reading this thread. I'm a Treo 180 user and just got my Prius, so I'm looking for a new handset.

When I attempted to submit an email request for Treo 650 support, I kept getting redirected to the Sprint PCS support site, which was down. I submitted a query for a handheld and then asked my questions about the Treo 650. I could have called an 800 number and spoken with someone in India, but I figured that email is more easily forwarded to the people who need to hear our plea for compatibility with the Prius.

If anyone on this thread knows of a good link for submitting Treo 650 queries, please let us know.

I sent email to Sprint support and talked to Palmone support (since you can't seem to email them directly on a treo issue, as noted in the previous post), and both said that they are working bluetooth and DUN issues with the Treo 650. This makes me hopeful that there is an eventual solution.
