Firstly: Thanks to Evan, Danny and esp naterprius who stepped out, explained his escape from Toyota Motors, regarding his EV mod failure, thusly, leading to warantee problems.
After reading of naterprius' ordeal participation on this forum at: [http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=36277], my wife got panicky and wanted the EV mod removed from our 2007 Prius, which I promptly did, the next day. I read all the posts on 18th Sept, which was Tuesday. Wednesday, the EV mod was removed by me. The removal of the EV mod was ok. The prius started and ran well all day Wed and Thurs. Today, Friday, we went out for lunch about 10 miles from our house. Guess what?
I always use the cruise control on the freeways. Today--NO cruise control. Thats when Lily says, it did not work for her in the morning, but had forgotten about it until I found out. Does anyone have any idea if the removal of the EV mod could affect the cruise control function? The EV mod is from Coastaltech and the mod is operated by the cruise crontrol stalk. I certainly did not want to go to Toyota about this problem after reading about naterpius' hassle. After lunch and at home again, I removed the glove compartment to check out the wiring, esp, if there were any loose ends. No loose wires. The white/black connection tap was neatly removed, and taped. The purple wire, same. The Orange wire, which I could not get the pin out completely, I snipped and taped, leaving no open ends. BTW, the scangauge II had one code. Code #0293. Toyota does not use SGII, so I have no idea what code 0293 is all about.
So, after making sure everything was neat and clean, we proceeded to the Toyota service dept. Being it was Friday afternoon, around 3 to 4 PM, the Prius tech says to come back Monday, and do worry about driving the car over the weekend. As for the code, the tech says, his diagnistic "lost connection", whatever that meant. Of course, now the wife is plenty mad at me and what if we get hit with $4500 repair job, esp for us 2 senior citizens, with me at 73 and Lily at 69
BTW, the EV mod installation was very simple and easy and it worked great. We have used it for 3 weeks already. It was installed purely for fun. I never did it with the intention it ever being a gas saver. But no beeps whatsoever, going into EV mode, but it switched to the consumption screen with the 2 seconds pause. Coming out of EV mode, I get the beeps. Any help, suggestions, or theories will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for listening.

Worst case scenario, as I see it, is that one of the taps cut the wire and you've got a short that needs to be soldered/spliced to repair it.
There shouldn't be any $4500 repair, though if you let Toyota hunt down and fix the problem it could cost you several hundred dollars.

That's my first thought too. It won't be a short, but an open where one of the taps cut the wire. You can try pushing the wire together from both sides of the tap, just to see if it will remake the connection. If that fixes it, then splice the wire back together at that point.

I have opened the glove box slots and rechecked all the connections, again today. No "opens" whatsoever. BTW, the taps have been removed and one was resoldered and taped already. Each wire is completely sealed by that good old black tape, with no sharp points coming thru the tape.
Thinking about it now: Is it possible the CC stalk has out-lived its life?
Is there any chance Toyota service will go to behind the glove box to check electrical connections and see the "bandaged" spliced wires? --ir will they assume its a bad stalk and replace the stalk?
That should be my luck !

I think you need to resolder and tape all of the wires that had taps...it just has to be one of those...even if there is no obvious break. I don't think the CC stalk is worn out or you would have had trouble before.

Maybe at this time is to late but, but if no electrical connections are open, probably you zapped the ECU while working with the soldering iron or other tools. Was the vehicle "OFF" while working in such delicate area?

I hope you had an open connection......................

Going to church has its rewardss -- On the way to church this morning, I flicked on the CC, and of course, it did not work, just like yesterday and day before. BUT, the "READY" flicked on, just for less than 1/2 a second, but I was fortunate enuff to catch the display. Just like Evan said, recheck the connections again. When I tugged on the purple wire, the connection parted. So, after another hour of work, and reconnections [3], SUCCESS !!! I now have my CC back and everything is hunky dory.
When I re-connected everything, I left the enuff wiring to put a tap in again, when it will {?} become legal to have it. I think I can do it blind folded now.

LYLUVLY, et al, You all seem really knowledgeable on EV, so hope you can answer these slightly off topic questions. I've been considering getting the EV, but can't seem to find out the following:

    1. Is Coastal Tech the only, or best/easiest, place to get the EV switch?
    2. Does EV permanently disable CC or just when EV is activated?
    3. If you uninstall the EV, will that be detectable by Toyota and subsequently void a warrantee, if that area is inspected, for some reason?
    4. Is there a way to make the CC remember the last setting, e.g., 35MPH, so when you go below 25/24MPH, it will return the car to that speed, once you get past 25/24MPH and hit Resume?
    5. Is there a "reverse EV" available that lets you force IC charging, e.g., during straights or downhills, so you will have max battery for passing on uphills? (Thought of this on my 2600 mile round trip to Pikes Peak, from SoCal).

    TIA, Gary

    1. While the Coastal Tech mod may be the easiest to install, it's not the only way. You can buy an OEM button from Sigma Automotive, disable the "Flash to Pass" and use that, or buy your own button and put it anywhere. The EV mode is activated (assuming conditions are right) by a short to ground from a certain pin in all 4 methods.

    2. If you have the Coastal Tech mod, the CC works normally, but if you pull the stalk (like in Cancel) for over 2 seconds it sends the signal to do the short. The other 3 methods will do that instantly. I suppose if you are in CC below 34mph it'll drop out when you try to activate EV, but that probably won't happen that often.
