Hybrid sales sagged a bit in september, but then again, total LDV sales were off 3%. Most of the drop for hybrids came from SUVs. The prius actually had it's best september yet. The TCH improved a modest 3.8% over last Sept.

It's MY guess that sales sagged because they sold 'em all! I've been waiting since MAY to get mine! There haven't been any available (and they stopped advertising back in June). At least, that's MY experience.

    Your mileage may differ...

The chart is pretty crazy for the year 7. There aren't a lot of trends seasonally but the trend of increasing sales is there and that's the most important one. The good news is that Pruis sales continue to increase at very healthy rates (I wish my stocks performed that well). There really are quite a few of them around the Denver metro area now.

Yeah, sales have dropped at the end of every. Nothing new. There will be news reports proclaiming that the "fad" is over.

Unless the price of gasoline goes up considerably in the near future, Prius sales will probably stabilize or decline. Consequently the market will change from a seller's market to a buyer's market. To the individual looking to buy a Prius, it means that one will be able to negotiate a better deal.

And for used vehicles, the resale value will also decline. The used Prius market is still kind of crazy - with sellers asking the price of a new vehicle for a used automobile. The secondary market (used) will probably be affected the most in the next 6 months.

    Hi All,

Somebody on Greencarcongress pointed out that this article is a red herring. Since all car sales were down 3 % in Sept 2007 compared to Sept 2006. So, normalized for the market, hybrid vehicles were actually up about 1% .

Down is down. I agree that the reason that they're down is because people are not buying so many new cars, hybrid or otherwise. Externalities are driving it. It's not like new car sales were up 10% but hybrids sales were down 20%. Never the less, the sales are off (except the Prius, which is doing quite well). If I recall correctly, the percentage of new vehicles sold that are hybrid did drop somewhat (I think down to about 1.75%). This was a comparison to recent months where the sales were about 2% of new cars.

Well, speaking for myself, I WOULD have bought my Prius in September, but it won't be delivered until late October.

There were also 25 selling days this Sept. compared to 26 last year, or about 4% less.
    Here's the Toyota press release : http://www.toyota.com/about/news/corporate...02-1-sales.html

"Toyota Division passenger cars recorded September sales of 107,743, a decrease of one percent from last September. Passenger car sales were led by Camry, which posted best-ever September sales of 40,438, up 9.9 percent over the same period last year. Camry Hybrid reported sales of 4,196 units in September, up eight percent over September 2006. The Prius hybrid gas-electric mid-size sedan posted best-ever September sales of 12,494, an increase of 23.8 percent over September 2006. "

According to my estimate, there are 225,000 more Prii on U.S. roads since I bought my car in Feb. 2006. The Prius is now over 10% of all Toyota passenger cars sold.

Okay, where are the GM hybrids to compare sales numbers? I've done a google search and am not finding any hybrid only numbers. any help out there?

"While GM’s BAS system allowed the domestic automaker to crow that it was, finally, in the hybrid business, sales are… unknown. [GM is the only automaker that doesn’t to break out hybrid sales numbers.] "

What, are they embarrased? How hard is it to count to 10?

saying Prius sales will slow down if gas prices stabilize is not a prediction i would put any money on. everyone i know or talk to has more interest in the Prius now than ever.

for one thing, every Prius owner i know except one (my dad) is strongly thinking about getting a 2nd Prius.

the Prius cracked the top ten for all car sales and unless someone does a better job on a hybrid, the Prius will continue to move up as long as Toyota can continue to increase production

    Found it!

"GM sold 142 Saturn Vue Hybrids and 103 Saturn Aura Hybrids in August. That’s it.

For contrast, Toyota sold 14,055 Priuses, 4,284 Camry Hybrids, 378 Highlander Hybrids, 1,172 Lexus RX400hs, 267 Lexus 600hLs, and 130 Lexus GS450hs during the same time period. Toyota has 80% of the hybrid market in the US; GM has 1%. "

    Enjoy.

    I agree completely.

Here in So. Calif. there are so many on the roads now that it reminds us Seniors of the VW bug days.

We had an 05. In Feb this year we bought 2 07s because the prices/financing seemed right at the time. The car is FUN to drive even w/o considering the advantages of clean emissions and mileage.
Gasoline prices have started back up here. With oil in the high $80 dollar range seems continued upward trend to me.

The hybrid SUVs did pretty badly, which is probably why the over market share dropped somewhat. Obviously, the prius is doing well, and it will continue to do well. Dont' see that changing for a long while. Current oil prices will probably see better hybrid sales in the next few months.

Oil futures were over $90/barrel today. Think we'll all be VERY happy with the Prius.

Overall hybrid market sales for Sept2007.

Looks like GM will have to crush all those hybrids, since they ain't selling.

Of course...to be as fair as I can be, Toyota should crush the Highlander Hybrid...or at least put together a 4-cyl, less expensive version.

I would assume the first 2007 spike is due to the tax rebate (haha) deadline at end of 1st quarter. That's what got me to purchase at the end of March. The other spike in May, tax refund checks coming in??
