National Car Rental at LAX now has Priuses on the Emerald Club Aisle! Apparently, they got them about 4 months ago.

I knew that you could rent Priuses from offsite facilities, but this is the first time I have seen Priuses available for rent via a mainstream airport rental company.

I have always liked National Car Rental since you can pick out your car when you arrive, but it was bonus surprise to see Priuses available! They are the base models with no added features, so you have to remember to stick the keyfob into the dashboard (I tried to start the car unsuccessfully about 4 times before I realized it was not the keyless start model).

Has anyone found Prius rental cars easily available from any other airport, besides LAX?

    Cheers,
    Brian

Flew into Seattle yesterday... National had a blue Prius available for rent. Even though it is classified as a mid-size car, the guy at the counter told me that it's a... well... ahem... "special" midsize that they charge an extra 10.99 per day. No doubt because it doesn't burn as much gas, and they can't get you on the return when you have to pay an already inflated price for them to fill it up...

Or maybe it's because they can?
Maybe it's because it cost a bit more to own excluding fuel costs which you pay not them.
I always fill up a rental before taking it back.
The Prius is well worth the extra!!

Avis also has the Prius and Altima Hybrid. They're both listed as "specialty" vehicles.

I am renting a Prius from Avis right now, picked it up at Ontario Airport, near LA. I initially reserved an economy size vehicle, but when I got there all they had for me was the horrendous Chevy HHR... so I asked about the Prius and they told me I had to pay more. I figured I'd save on gas over the HHR anyway, so I am gladly paying the extra charge for it! I am loving every slow mile on it :D

Found one on at FOXrentacar.com, at the Oakland Calif. Airport. Called to confirm that they are still available. Not cheap but I figure I’m contributing a carbon offset.

Rented one in July from Avis at John Wayne Airport. It was just a base model, but I was so happy to avoid driving a mere mortal car.

how much are they anyway? I'll be doing lots of highway mileage with some decent city drives... I don't know if I should stick with a Cobalt or cough up the money for a Prius (given CA's high fuel prices)

    Big fan of National.
Nice & easy & the rates are competitive esp if your on business travel.

Saw the LAX Priuses back in Sept. while travelling out there. Was temped by the dark side tho... :(
