Will 15 inch wheels fit the 2008 prius? I have contacted toyota Canada and they still haven't got back to me in 3 weeks..shame. I have not heard of any changes to the brakes for 08 thus I am assuming 15 will fit. We are planning which winter tires we will use and 15 inch is cheaper and also allows a taller tire which is more absorbant over rutted Canadian winter streets.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mountainman

I've had that problem too. No one at Toyota seems to know the set-back for a set of steelies for the Canadian '08. In the end, I've pretty well decided to go with a set of Nokian WRs on the original rims year-round. Good snow and ice performance, fairly low rolling resistance and long tread life. As a bonus, I don't sacrifice the TPWS. Let me know if you get more info from TC. My decision is not yet cast in stone.

    Cheers,

    Geoff

15" should work. The brake rotor size won't change (The Prius doesn't need bigger rotors).

P185/65R15 is close to your stock P195/55R16 tyre in terms of revs.

P.S. We don't have a #9 as a package. You can change it to Pkg "B" or Pkg "C"

I agree that the 15 inch should fit. I am going with the smaller wheel but 195/60's thus the tire is almost identical (only 1% difference in speedometer). In my view the beauty of this setup is same width (decent cornering) taller tire (better on bumps and better start up traction) and cheaper wheels and tires.

I have another questions which I may post as another post depending on response:

What is the tire pressure monitoring system for 08 like? Does it just warn of a low tire or does it monitor the pressure and give a read out? I hear installing the sensors in another set of tires (winters in our case) will cost a few hundred more dollars. You can get an entire monitoring system from C Tire for 100 dollars now, so I'm weighing the value of having the stock system setup for winter.

    Thanks for the responses!

I doubt the specs have changed, 15 inch will fit. Look into the wheels and if you have an inch of clearance between the wheel rim and the caliper then 15 inch wheels will fit easy. That same offset as every Prius since 2004 will do the trick.

You can measure the offset yourself. Take off a wheel. Turn it upside down. Place a straightedge across the rim and measure the distance to the contact surface where the wheel is bolted to the hub. Subtract the distance from the rim to the inside bead seal surface. That is the offset.

I presume you got a US Touring model? The 2008 uses the same 15" and 16" wheels the earlier models used. I would recommend using a 185/65R15 tire for winter use. I went with the Nokian WR in 88H load/speed rating, and will use it year round. I threw away the stock Goodyear Integrities. Nokian claim the WR performs as well as the Mich Ice tire on ice, yet they are safe to use all summer as well. They come with a 100,000 km treadwear warranty.

ohh ok. Well whatever works for you :)

It's a direct tyre pressure monitoring system so it measures the tyre pressure directly (as opposed to indirect systems that measure the rpm of the wheel and compares it to the other 3 wheels).

It doesn't give a readout (only the LS does.. AFAIK), but illuminates the Low Tire Pressure Warning light when the tyre pressure drops to 25% below.

Every time you remount the wheels, you have to reset the system. You do that by pumping the tyres up to the pressure you want, then pressing (and I think holding too.. but double check the manual) the RESET button located under the steering wheel.
