Warning buzzing

    Hello everyone

    About an hour ago (21:00 UK time) I started my Prius in the dark. I was driving down the road when suddenly what I think must be the warning buzzing sound started. There were no warning symbols so I pulled up at the side of the road and I started to check everything. Then I noticed that I had put the key into it's slot upside down. I turned off the car and put the key the right way up and started the car again but it was still buzzing though it was no longer buzzing the whole time now it was buzzing intermittently.

    Does anyone have any ideas about what I should do and if it was the keys being upside down that may have started this problem?

    How in the world did you get it in upside down?
    Only thing I'd worry about is if you could have damaged the slot itself. Just suprised it ran or that you got it in the slot at all.

    There is no upside down the fob works either way. do not know about the buzzing but doubt that it has anything to do with the key fob.

    The prius doesn't buzz if theres a problem. It beeps.

    Perhaps your referring to the brake pump hum? It may sound like a buzz of some sort.

    All doors closed properly including the hatch? Seatbelt on? Park brake off?

    I have been to my local Toyota service centre this morning and they have discovered that it is my front parking sensor malfunctioning and it is will be fixed tomorrow.

    Huh. Odd that this created a buzz and not some beeps, and no warning lights on the dash. Still, all's well that ends well.

    Same as the back but for the front of the car. Depending whether it's 2 or 4 sensors, it can help with the two front corners of the bumper as well as pulling right up to the rear bumper of the car in front when you parallel park.

    Huh? I must have missed something completely. Do all Prii come with parking sensors? What do they do and how do they tell you they've sensed something?

    No. Note that the OP is from the UK.

    Parking sensors are those ultrasonic proximity sensors that beep and (in some cases) give you a visual warning on how close you are to an object.

    In NA, they're mostly mounted on the rear bumpers (those are the little dots you see). I don't remember what waves they use for sensing but basically the faster the return signal, the closer the object (that's how the computer tells how close you are).

    On higher end models (like the Lexus here in NA), they also put the sensors in the front bumpers.

    In Chicago the bumpers serve that function. A slight scraping sound means you are getting close, a good solid crunch indicates you are there.

    :lol: That's what the sound is for! I just thought it was warning me that paint is being stripped off my bumpers. I've always just waited to feel a bump and see the car in front or behind me suddenly move out of my way.
