We own two Prius 2002. Recently the DVD unit of my navigation system stopped working. The screen displays a message that says "Unable to read data." I played my CD in the other Prius without a problem. Does anyone know where I can buy a refurbished DVD unit for the navigation system? I cannot afford paying dealer price for a new DVD unit at a dealer (over $4000). The part number is 86841-33060. Thanks!! Lorena

did you try cleaning the player with a dvd/cd cleaner disk? I've seen these cleaning disk with small brushes that can clean the lens that reads the cd/dvd data

Hello Lorena, I am Interested in the out come of this for you. Our DVD NAV System is starting to do the same thing. I tried to clean out the unit but still no lock and the fact that the dealer is also saying for us would cost about $3000 to replaces is ridicules. I took the unit out and there is barely anything in it. I may see if I can replace the DVD-Rom in it.

Let me know what you guys did if anything to fix it. Thanks!

Ok.. so i have been working on this today. Here is what I got.

First here is what the $3000 box looks like

    Again.. not much to it.

I have already tried to clean the drive and also able to get to the lens and make sure it is ok.
I can also watch the drive spin but the lens just goes back and forth trying to look for the DVD's TOC which is where it fails. So I assume all that needs to be replaced is the dvd-rom so...

Here is how the DVD-Rom is connected,

    and here,

Pretty Simple.. so now I'm trying to find if you can buy this DVD-ROM type or not.. only numbers I could find on the drive was 11906H-M which isn't turning up much. Maybe someone here might know.

Anyways I will keep looking and keep you posted.

    Thanks!

Also.. Since this topic was started a long time again, I have reposted this in the Prius Technical Discussion.

    Thanks

I had the cannot read data error. I was ready to accept not having the Nav system anymore because I wasn't going to pay so much for one. I had tried some things, but I will go to the last step that seemed to make it start working again. With the key off I held the menu button in, put the key in accessory, and it started reading the data. In a short time the system was fully functional. I have since used it for a couple of trips, for a total of over 2,000 miles.

If that doesn't work, perhaps another step is needed first. Before getting it to work as described above, I had tried unplugging all the wires to the drive under the driver's seat. I waited a bit and plugged them back in. That message changed from cannot read data to something like "cannot read program" and something under it in Japanese or Chinese or something.

If someone has the problem and this procedure works, perhaps you can report whether it works without unplugging all the wires. I hope this helps. It is a lot cheaper and easier than replacing the drive.

Before getting mine to work I had found another thread where the problem was discussed. If I find it again I'll repost this to that thread. If it is verified to work, perhaps this info can be made readily available somewhere.
