I read a test in a car mgazine. The emf in the tested Volvo and Mercedes was veery high, emf in the Prius was below average.

    Thanks Tom.

I am now a tiny bit wiser, for an old aero engineer, my electrical/electronics side is pretty rusty, stemming from college days in the late 50s, shortly after the transister was invented!

Your description pretty much parallels the one I read in Wikepedia when I "googled" MRI.

I know very little about emf but I can tell you that I currently own a 2002 classic prius and a 2004 prius,
they are both great cars and I have even convinced 3 of my friends into purchasing a prius but there is something strange that has happened in my 2002 prius. I own a valentine 1 radar detector and i had it hard wired with the wires running up the a pillar of the car and under the headliner to the right side of the rear view mirror and I have gone thru 3 radar detectors in the past 3 years.
several of my family members and some friends have the same radar detector and none of them have had any problems with there radars.
maybe somebody here can shed some light on this strange problem.
what happens to the radar detector is the thing goes crazy and lights up and sounds the way it would if I was picking up a laser signal and it just stays that way.

I tested my 2005 with my handy dandy EMF detector and I could only get it to read above 8 when the ICE starts....

For comparison my wife's 89 Subaru and my 93 Ford Ranger kick even higher when you start their engines.

The riding mower gave the highest reading at idle.

When the ICE is off I only get background noise.

The monitor in front of me kicks up to 8 at about six inches.....

It would be interesting to do a thorough test with a better quality EMF meter that didn't have to be manually turned to see if the spiking is from different angles.

OH! One last test that I just did after thinking about another posting pertaining to HID lights. The ballast on the HID kicks a raucous 12 to 16 at arms length from the car.....

The crap about EMF danger is no more than sensationalism. If it were in any way true, turbine tenders would all die in a matter of months and would be producing space aliens for children all day long. For those of you who don't understand a turbine tenders exposure to so called "electro Magnetic Fields", a turbine tender sat all day long directly adjacent to the giant generators that produce the electricity we all use. They were subjected to exposure to EMF many thousands of times what anyone could possibly get from power lines or any other method of EMF exposure. I knew many many of these people who lived normal lives and fathered normal children. I was exposed to the same levels of EMF due to my job with Pacific Gas and Electric company in it's power plants. 20 years worth.
