I have an OTD quote for 27,940.91 at Putnum Toyota in Burlingame, CA

I countered with 27,375 which is what someone here got it for at Dublin Toyota.

These prices are for a 2008 Package 5 Base Prius.

I am kind of disappointed California Priuses are a bit more expensive than the rest of the country.

    Solid price.

Is it just me or is the Bay Area charging more for their '08 Package 5 Prius than everyone else?

The dealers I have talked are pricing the Prius at around 27,900 OTD.

I just purchased a 2008 Package 5 in San Diego for 24,800. Special sale going on at Keary Mesa, todays the last day. Taxes and fees, and Lojack boosted it up over 27.

I'm a personal friend of RZ1 on this board and got the same deal he did at Watertown Toyota in Watertown, MA; namely $500.00 **under** invoice.

I just bought a 2008 Barcelona Red Prius Package 3 (whereas RZ1 got pkg #5):

    MSRP: $25,289.00
    Invoice: $23,579.00

    Quoted price: $23,079.00
    Registration Fee: $36.00
    Title Fee: $50.00
    Sale Tax %5.00: $1,153.95
    Doc prep: $199.00
    Total: $24,517.95

I said no to all of the financing, extended warranty and service options. They really didn't pressure me on those.

Over my life, this was my 6th new car purchase and it was BY FAR the easiest car purchase I've ever done.

All interaction prior to my decision was by email. Once I had the offer from Watertown, no one else would match it. Made my decision at 4pm, picked up my wife and got to the dealer around 6:15pm and walked out the door around 7:45 with a completed transaction. The car was dropped off the truck that morning and I am picking it up on Saturday.

I just paid $24,607 + TTL for my Barcelona Red w/grey interior and package #3. I'm not ecstatic with the price but okay with it, "want" beat out "need". I am happy about the 4.94% APR for 60 mos. financing I got thru USAA Federal Savings Bank. Toyota wouldn't even try to match that for the Prius! :)

I guess I am a born sucker. I paid $25,833.44 total, after all taxes and stuff, for a package #2 1224, black with gray interior, tinted windows, floor mats, that rip off Toyoguard Plus, some crap "Auto Advantage Program"(lifetime road assistance, rebates for tires, and some other junk) , lifetime free oil changes, and a kind of shady sounding Lifetime Powertrain warranty that is supposedly the same as the Toyota one just extended for as long as I own the car. They did say it was not their warranty but was done by an outside firm. So if the dealership changes hands or closes it will still be good.

In my defense this was my first new car and I didn't have a lot of time to find one. My car was about to die.

I got this 'deal' at Daytona Toyota of Florida. Thing is, no one in Central Florida would give me a better deal really. Some had slightly better prices but that was because the car didn't have certain things like the tint or mats or they weren't black. I even had one salesman basically hang up on me when I told him about this estimate. Another said they don't discount them at all, ever.

Then the wonderful salesmen experiences left me feeling dirty. The supposed 'Prius Guy' at Courtesy Toyota of Orlando didn't even know where the MP3 player jack was, the power outlets, the spare tire, how many of what kind of Prius' they had, or what the "B" did on the shift lever.

I should've gone the Costco route, I guess, but I didn't really know much about it.

The weird thing is this whole time everyone is acting like they are doing me this big favor by selling me this damn car. Like they are letting me in on some fabulous inner circle thing. Then after I am done buying this car in front of some Big Brother video system taping our every move and word (which was freaking surreal.), the manager gives me this demanding, self righteous, almost threatening talk about giving them a good review on some Toyota survey I will be getting.
"Everything must be marked excellent. Can you promise me that you will mark everything excellent?"
I just looked at him. That lasted like 5 seconds. When he saw I wasn't going to say anything, he started talking all injured and pissed off. Talking about how his and everyones job at the dealership was on the line with my survey.

They lost my freaking mats. I was told to show up and the car would be ready for me all detailed and clean. I had to wait 2 hours for it to be cleaned and detailed. I think some of that time was spent trying to find the mats though. If I hadn't said something, the promised Lifetime oil changes would've been left out. They said they give the highest dollar for trade ins, they said my car was worthless. (Even though I got 200 bucks for it at a local junk yard with no haggling. The dealer could've given me that and saved my time at the least.)
By the way, the couple next to me were trading in their SUV that KBB was 14,000 average condition for a trade in. These guys offered them 8,500. The couple just got up and left. That should've been a sign.

Sorry I went off there. I just read the posts on here where people paid thousands less for about the same car and I hate being a sucker.

    Got my prius last week.

2008 Prius Touring Pkg #5 Spectra Blue:

$26,484 (w/o tax, license, etc). Best price I found in Minneapolis area, plus I had to order since Touring models are hard to come by in MN and I really wanted the new blue color.

Great experience with the dealer since I dealt with the internet dept. I probably could have gotten a slightly better trade-in value on my Pathfinder though.

Don't feel too bad -- you did get quite a few extra things, it seems. Just the oil changes are worth something (however, if you move away or the dealership closes, will you lose them?) and the other stuff -- like the extended warranty -- has some value. You probably could have gotten it for less, but you weren't ripped off too badly. But I'm sorry you found the dealership so unpleasant. At least the Toyota survey will give you an opportunity to speak your mind!

I had the same experience. The car salesman kept talking about how great the Prius was, but did not know sh*t about how the car worked. He couldn't operate the stereo, knew very little about how it worked and generally wasn't much help. He was more or less put in place to try and sell me the car. I am grateful for PriusChat because I could go in knowing what I wanted to pay for.

Then after I am done buying this car in front of some Big Brother video system taping our every move and word (which was freaking surreal.), the manager gives me this demanding, self righteous, almost threatening talk about giving them a good review on some Toyota survey I will be getting.

After being run through several hours of negotiations where they finally agreed to meet my price, I was left with a bad taste in my mouth from the whole process. I thought we had agreed on a price when I called them before coming in, and then they spent a few more hours trying to raise it with me. I got up to leave and thats when they agreed to it.

Then I had to sit and listen to the finance guy try and sell me $3000 worth of extra warranty and service plans and try to get me to use Toyota financing, when I had a better rate from my own bank. It was late - it was Friday night, I just wanted to go home. I felt even worse for the poor woman next to me trying to buy a Corolla. They had already set a price and she wanted to buy it, but then they were trying to jack her price up with extras she didn't need.

The next day I came in to pick up the car and there came the "survey". "will you fill this out?" please write a letter explaining how good a time you had here buying your car?" they give me a folder with some cheesy looking stationary and ask me to write a flowery letter describing my experience. How about "it sucked?" I'm never coming back here again. They wanted me to take a photo. I obliged just so I could get the hell out of here.

For the next seven days, I must have received 3 phone calls asking me to take the time and fill out the survey. I understand they want feedback - I am glad we have the chance to give it to them. But 3 calls? don't these people have anything better to do? When the Toyota survey came in the mail I told them the truth. The process sucked. I was hoping for something better from this dealer (who is a new dealer in my area), but these guys blew it.

After reading this page (19,) I can't help but recommend Jim Barkley Toyota in Asheville, NC. I had a wonderfully painless buying experience.

The first time I called the dealership I asked for a salesperson that was knowledgeable on the Prius. They connected me to Scott Gray. I asked him how much he knew about the Prius and he said he could answer some questions but certainly did not know everything about them. I respected his honesty.

I talked to him many times before finally committing and making a deposit over the phone. Then I changed the particular vehicle I wanted three times before I actually showed up.

On the day of the purchase I called him early in the morning and told him I would be there by 11:30. He said they would have detailed and ready to go. They did. I was there about 11:30 and on the road by 12:30.

I am from out of state so the price on the internet is the final price. No nonsense, no hidden fees. No pressure on extended warranties. It was a simple and pleasurable experience.

Since I am from out of state, they gave me 3 oil filters and a case of oil since they normally give you free oil changes.

    Highly recommend them! :D :D :D :p :p :p

If you are within a hundred or even 500 miles it's worth the trip.

2008 Package 3 for $24,000 after playing two dealers off of each other.

The joke was on me in the end, however, as he charged me $2000 for a 6-year, 75,000 Extra Care service agreement. He told me that if I never had the car serviced under the extended plan, I'd get a refund check at the end of the 6 years.

Major thanks for offering a discounted plan here, guys, seriously.

In the final stage of negotiations on an 08 with pkg #5 (not touring) with mud guards, window tint and carpet/trunk mats. Dealer(San Marcos Toyota, San Marcos Texas) quoted me 27,153 + TTL. Good or bad?
Consumer Reports Pricing kit lists the same vehicle with the same options as 23,849 +TTL. Anything extra that Toyota requires the dealer to charge, or is this just simple greed? They have 14 Priuses on the lot.

That sounds good especially since the '08s are just coming out. Were you happy with the person you delt with there? What was the OTD?

Congrats! That is a good deal from what I have seen posted.

Is there additional hardware that was needed to get the Sirius subscription?
