"She would also move to accelerate production of plug-in electric hybrids -- though none are currently commercially available in wide numbers.

    Clinton also said she would:

*Invest $2 billion in research and development to reduce the cost and increase the longevity and durability of batteries. Last year, automakers asked President Bush for $500 million in new battery funding -- a request that wasn't granted

*Offer consumers tax credits of up to $10,000 for purchasing a plug-in hybrid

*Add 100,000 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles to the federal fleet by 2015. "

And I promise to lose 50 lbs by 2009, say something nice to my mother-in-law, donate my unicorns to the national zoo.

I think Nixon tried that...I guess the gas mileage in the Prius would improve. Sure seems slow when you are on the interstate.

Wouldn't we save more gas if we just did the jimmy carter speed limit again?

The difference being, each one of those things could be independently verified . . .
that is, unless you lock-up your mother-in-law as tight as the Clinton Library has done to Hillary's White House papers.

Just what are they hiding? <_<

Come January 2009, we will have had either a Clinton or Bush occupying the White House for the past 20 years. Do we really wish to continue traveling down that road for another four to eight years?
Given that choice, I'd gladly take Obama or Giuliani.

What, you don't like the fact that we've pretty much gotten to a point where we have two ruling families duking it out for control of the US? At least it's better than the old Monarchy we did away with... oh, wait...

Oh don't you love it. Word it this way, with Bush the prominent name in the sentence, and you get a "How dare he deny the funding!" kind of reaction.

I bet if you reworded it to "GM, Ford, and Chrystler asked the government for $500 million in new battery funding", you would get a "How dare those US automakers ask for government subsidies!". (It was, by the way GM, Ford, and Chrystler that requested the funding)

    It's just amusing...

All candidates do. The question is, how do their promises differ?

I've re-written your sentence to highlight how silly it is. ;)

Come January 2009, I will have owned either a Toyota Prius or Toyota Tundra for the past 20 years. Do I really wish to continue traveling down that Toyota road for another four to eight years?
Given that choice, I'd gladly take a Ford Focus or a Ford F-150.

You have to clarify that, because if I understand that correctly, I may as well move out of the country now and not wait until the Prius gets elected.
