I'm hearing a short series of knocks during the start up process. About 2 or 3 at a time. Then it stops.
Can you be more specific? Are the knocks pinging as you might get from low octane gas, or are you talking about a mechanical noise, such as the brake accumulator pump? Tom

It runs for a couple of seconds when you press on the brake pedal. It makes a rattling sort of sound. It doesn't go every time you brake, but maybe about every third time. The sound appears to come from the driver's foot well. The reason I am thinking brake accumulator is that you mention shifting into D or R. When you are doing that, you have usually pressed the brake. Tom

Remember that the shifter is by-wire so it's just a computer chip telling another computer chip to move something mechanical. You can also hear a click when you "shift" in and out of P. You can hear the ratchet engaging/disengaging. OF course you'll need the radio to be off. Btw, I've moved it to the Care, Maintenance and Troubleshotting forum with a link from the Eastern Penn forum so people can find it.
