I have a New 08 Prius and Found that the owners manual misstates a few things. Didn't see any listed clearly in other threads, Thought others might like to post their findings.

1 Door Locks are not automatic or programmable.
2 Temp is not dual control

Dealer confirmed No models can do either and they are misprints in the book.

Technical explainiation of the ommission/Errors from Toyota...
"The disclaimer in the book is that all facts are correct at the time of publication. They must have planned to put these features in and choose not to"

    Interesting.
I work very closely with TechComm at my company and I should hope that the Prius TechComm wouldn't just start making stuff up.

And normally, numbered printed materials suffer multiple reviews before being released. Finding something that blatant is surprising to me.

    Hi All,

I too have noted some errors in the Owner's Manual I received with my 2008 Prius. Another minor one, in addition to those previously mentioned is on p.208, where a picture of the MFD and control buttons is shown for the non-navigation equipped model. The writeup refers to "the above illustration is for a vehicle equipped with the navigation system". It should read "not equipped".

Getting these manuals right is always a work in progress it seems, especially when it is from an original in another language.

They've got the car right though, as far as I'm concerned!

    Ron.

Answer from Toyota on door locks.

"Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

We apologize for any discrepancy in your 2008 Prius Owner's Manual and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify the operation of the door locks on your vehicle.

The 2008 Prius does not have automatic door locks and there is no way to link them with either the vehicle's speed or with the position of the shift lever.

All information and specifications in this manual are current at the time of printing. However, because of Toyota's policy of continual product improvement, we reserve the right to make changes at any time without notice."

    Older US manuals are landscape.

I wonder whether the '08 shop manual still says to add 3.9 US quarts of oil during a change?

3.5 US quarts almost always fills it right up to the top mark on the dipstick.

I use 3 US quart bottles because that leaves the level halfway up, which is perfectly fine, and it is extremely convenient (no partially filled bottle left over to fumble with and oxidize while waiting for the next oil change).

3.9 quarts is the dry capacity of the oil system. Adding that much during a change does not allow for the half quart or so which is always left in the sump and sticking to the internal walls.

shown with the binding toward the top.]

I'm mystified as to why Toyota has not corrected this after four years. Maybe the manuals are right and the dipstick is wrong :_>
