Okie, if that's the case CD mode and MD mode are out because your car does not support either, only MP3 and SAT.

I prefer MP3 mode. So if I have this straight, you set the car DIP switches to UP/DOWN, nothing would work - but if you had it in SAT mode, it would at least get sound.

Weird. You have one confused car. In MP3 mode, does it help if you press the CD button 2x?

    Vagabond,
No it's actually the other way around -- whether the DICE is in MP3 or SAT mode, the only audio that comes through the Prius is when the radio is on the Satellite input. Pressing the CD button only toggles between the in-deck CD changer and the AUX input. Appreciate your help. Thanks.

Let's setup an exchange. It could be a very confused radio, but is could be that the the DIP switches on the DICE kit may not be working right. Can you PM me your contact and mailing info please?

oh snap - sorry! I didn't hear back so I went ahead and made plans to help my friend move. We were at it from 8am to 11:30pm. And we still couldn't empty his 3 bedroom house!

I just received and installed my DICE unit (model A00065-0606). I put it in an 08 Touring Edition with package 6, so I do have the JBL system with the internal 6CD changer and the voice activated NAV system. I'm using it with one of the new 160 GB iPod Classics. My question for you is this: which mode would be best for me to set the DICE unit to? I'm not really clear on what the difference between the CD changer mode and MD changer mode is. Is there advantages and disadvantages to each? The documentation that is included with the unit is, shall we say...less than informative. :p

I currently have it set to CD changer mode and so far I have had no issues with the MFD. I HAVE, however, had two instances so far where the iPod itself just stops playing in the middle of a song and when I unplug it from the DICE unit, the iPod itself reboots. Once it is done rebooting, I can plug it back in to the connector and it will start playing again. I don't know if running in a different mode will alleviate that issue or if it's just a problem with the firmware on the new iPods that I'm just stuck with. Any advice will be helpful.

    Thanks.

If CD mode is working for you, that's great. Your car can't use it in MD mode. I could in MP3 mode however.

That's a common complaint with the Classic - it has alot of bugs. Apple is supposed to be working on a fix.

Out of curiosity, what kind of mojo does it take to be able to run in MD changer mode if the latest top-end unit won't do it? And also, is there a list somewhere of which DIP switch configurations equate to the various modes in case I get to feeling adventurous and want to experiment?

Get an 04 or 05 Prius and it will do it. They got rid of the option in 06.

It behaves just like a CD changer does, there's not much reason to try it.

A little update on my experience with the Dice unit. Turns out I did actually have the unit set for MP3 mode and not CDC mode. For some reason, when I put it in CDC mode I don't get any song track information. The unit is performing very well. I earlier reported that I was having issues with the iPod locking up, but it looks like that's not entirely the case. Every time I start up the car, the music starts playing automatically as it should. Usually about 30 seconds to a minute into the first song, the music will stop. The display shows that it is "paused". Since there is no pause/play function that I can find, I have to cycle the mode button all the way around once and then the music starts playing again. From what I've seen so far, that happens every time I start up the car, but then that's the ONLY time that it stops automatically. After I cycle through the modes once, it plays from then on with no problems whatsoever. I have also had no problems at all with the track information displaying properly. It always updates within a second or two of the song changing and always displays the correct information. At the risk of jinxing myself, I have had no issues at all with the MFD locking up.

Overall, I am very happy with the Dice unit on my '08 Prius. I'm not sure if the lack of issues is due to the newer updated firmware in the Dice unit or if it is an improvement in the MFD on the '08, but one way or the other, the Dice performs very well on the '08 Prius using MP3 mode. I had mounted the unit and iPod in the lower glovebox until I could see if it was going to need to be frequently reset. If it continues to perform this well with no lockup issues, then I will be moving it to a more permanent hidden location soon. :)

I'm betting you have a Classic or the new Nano iPod's. They have an issue with pausing - Apple is working on a fix.

Thanks for the write up JasonB. Glad to hear that you are having success with your DICE unit and a 2008 Prius.

I have the combination of a base 2008 Prius + new (3G) iPod Nano. And I will soon be acquiring an iPhone. So I am quite interested in the DICE unit.

My question to you is how much dashboard disassembly did you do to install your unit. Given that my wife and I purchased the new Prius about a week ago, I am kind of terrified about ripping apart the dash for iPod integration.

Did you perform the installation or was it professionally installed? What was involved?

If you search for my posts, there is a detailed install guide I've made and a simpler one in the same thread. You basicly pull one of the vent off and reach your hand behind the radio. It's really easy.

If you downgrade your firmware on the new Classic or Nano it will stop pausing on playback.

That's it?! Sounds super easy. I'm off to search for those install guides.

    Thanks Vagabond.

Yep. I followed the instructions in the PDF file that was posted earlier in this thread. I did the work myself and it took me less than 30 minutes.

    CoastalTech XM Radio Integration

I think I may purchase the DICE kit for my 2005 Prius. But I currently have the CoastalTech XM radio installed... Will installing this DICE kit have any negative effect on that? It looks like I can use the harness from the XM and hook into the DICE, but what will I need to hook the CoastalTech unit into the DICE? I see there is a port for an XM on it, but has anyone here integrated the two together?

I tried to search for the answer, but this thread is 51 pages and there doesn't seem to be a way to search the thread... As well, the search function doesn't allow a search for "XM." That is something that should be corrected! :)

    Thanks.
