I just picked up the new Audiovox 5600 SmartPhone last night, So far here is what I have found out.

It does not display the Signal Strength of your cell but displays the signal type (e.g. Digital) and the bluetooth connection strength.

It only rings on the phone, maybe. I have to play around with some of the profile settings still.

You can only sync 1 contact at a time.
And the contacts I have to play with because the phone syncs with Outlook for all its information and in Outlook the phone numbers are +1(XXX) XXX-XXXX and for what ever reason when I tried to send a contact to the car, it took but came out +1|||||||||||||. I am going to try and take out the () to see if thats what is killing it.

The responce is very quick and the phone is very clear.

I have the Sony Ericsson T610 & the T637 which both worked well but wanted a SmartPhone and the Audiovox is the smallest footprint SmartPhone out there. All of my phones have been with AT&T Wireless which is great as long as you have a GSM phone.

I will keep you up to date with what I find whith using this phone.

    OK here we go.

The problem of not transfering the number from my smrtphone to the car was caused by not only the () for the area code but also the - between the exchange and the rest of the number. Once I took that out it worked fine. SO I just have to make sure that Outlook does not add the () and - in the numbers.

This phone has the same issue as most phones, multiple numbers for a single contact so it transfers the first one which happens to be the Home #, then Mobile and then Work.

I am able to transfer a call from the car to the phone when I get out of the car by releasing the handsfree mode. Same with getting in the car, once the bluetooth syncs I can tranfer the call to the car.

So far so good, I have not had any problems with AT&T or the phone. Alot of very cool features.

I just got this phone and would love an update of your experiences with the phone/bluetooth.

    So far so good....
The bluetooth connection is fine. Once you get past the problem with how outlook stores phone numbers by default everything works great.
The car does not ring but only really 1 or 2 phones do that anyway.

Did anyone determine what needs to be in place for the ringtone to play through the car's speakers?

    Is it a data-transfer thing?...

I was wondering how do you get the voice tags to work?

The voice tags were pulled during the mfg process but was left in the book. I verified this thru Toyota after weeks of going back and fourth with them. To the point I actually talked with and Engineer who told me they yanked that feature but the books were already printed.

So you can record a voice tag that will do nothing? It seems like they would have turned off the ability to record on the phone as well. I guess I should free up some memory and delete out the voice tags I recorded. Grrrrh

You can still use the voice tags on your mobile phone itself to dial, which will then be picked up by the car, but there was to be voice commands for dialing in the car itself which were taken out.

I own AV 5600 and it has a few major flaws.

    1. Boot time is horrible. I takes longer than a minute for the phone to get to ready state after you turn it on.

    2. Half of the time it does not boot, just hangs at green Audiovox screen. I have to yank the battery out and reinsert it.

    3. Same when I switch it off. Half of the time it never turns off, just hangs at the green AV screen.

    4. Ringer volume is too low, I routinely miss calls.

I guess it is a great phone as long as you keep it on. I don't keep my phone on all the time so I actually regret getting AV 5600.

I can't seem to get my car to recognize the phone at all. Any step by step suggestions? Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

All you need to do is make sure bluetooth is activated on the phone and follow the instructions in the user guide for the car.

I am not sure whats wrong with your phone but I have not seen that yet. My work gave me this phone, we have 20 of them and I have never seen them hang or take a mintue to boot up or on shutdown.
The ringer volume has never been a problem even with the default ring tones. What ringtones are you using?

Does anyone know how to transfer contacts from my Audiovox 5600 to the Prius phone book?

The Prius tells me to start the phone transfer, but I can't figure it out on the phone.

The instructions in the navigation manual aren't clear.

It's not possible to transfer contacts to the Prius with this phone. I looked and looked... Best alternative is getting a bluetooth dongle for your PC and transferring them from there (assuming you can get your car within range). Good luck.

Actually, I just figured out how to transfer contacts last night.

When you finally make the bluetooth connection, you hit Start Transfer on the Prius. At this point, you select the contact number on the phone that you want to transfer and select Beam on the menu. The phone tries to make a bluetooth connection and then you select that bluetooth connection for the transfer. The phone number has to be in a format without any spaces, dashes, or parentheses i.e. 3125998768.

I've placed a bunch of phone numbers in the Prius.

These are some of the issues that really burned me about the bluetooth sync! I have a Motorola MPX220 -- also a MS Smartphone -- and have the same problems. I understand the fixes, but I don't understand why these problems are there in the first place.

Toyota has a great product here and the bluetooth sync is a great way for them to tap into us technophiles/geeks/'first adapters' out there. Why don't they go the extra step and make this option truly useful?

I would love for the Prius to sync fully with my phone -- contacts as well as calander!
