For the record the 2008 EPA numbers for the H3 are:

    5cyl: 15mpg av (13/18) BIN 5/ LEVII
    8cyl: 14mpg av (13/16) BIN 4/5

Hard not to see the green in that!

Sad thing is some people actually do believe this kind of tripe :(

    Lucky guy

Had a lot of trouble with the rear axle from new: leaky rear pinion seal, and both rear axle seals. The "drum in hat" rear parking brake needed to be adjusted every 6 months, or it would fail to hold the empty truck on a slight grade.

Lot of trouble with the 4wd selector switch system, replaced 3x under warranty, once off warranty. That alone was the lemon law excuse I used to dump the POS

The 5.3 Vortec was cute, it started the heavy knock at around 5,000 km and started burning oil. At first the dealership agreed to replace the motor, as they had performed the initial maintenance at 3,000 km. Then they had a "revised" GM tsb for me, stating the knocking was "normal" and oil consumption up to 1 litre every 1,000 km was "normal."

At first, people were impressed with my "diesel truck" in a parking lot: KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK. Until I told them it was a POS GM gas motor, wonder how many sales I personally tanked for GM?

The original Hummer is actually a very good vehicle and incredibly well engineered for its target application, which, incidentally, was never running the kids to soccer practice. It was designed to replace three distinct military vehicles, and it does a pretty good job. It's a bit big for a Jeep, but then with all of the up-armoring these days it may not be big enough. In the civilian world it does well as an oilfield vehicle or for off-road survey work. Driving one around town as an everyday car is just plain dumb. Don't blame the vehicle for that; blame marketing and silly consumers.

Ouch! Yeah you defiantely got a lemon. lol

I raced my trucks for about 4yrs and hung out on all of the LS1 sites and PerformanceTrucks.Net and those sorts of problems were rare except for the piston-slap issue; however, that never caused any real problems for the majority of us. In fact I turbocharged the stock 5.3L and had no trouble running low 12s at over 550rwhp and we recently made over 700rwhp on the stock block. LSx engines are pretty cool IMO.

Unfortunately the fuel milage even with a twin turbo kit is pretty dismal at 14mpg so I sold it to my buddy. As much as I bash GM these days, I cannot fault them on the products I've owned. They never left me stranded nor had major defects. They just lead by bad example. :)

I really like how my GMC truck dealer basically told me to f*** off instead of trying to help me with the issues I had.

For that reason alone, I could care less if GM goes down in flames. The foaming-at-the-mouth GM boosters on this forum - Chrome and Malorn - somehow think I'm an unpatriotic bastard for not putting up with a bunch of problems

Trust me on this: if I had a Toyota dealer treat me the same way my GMC Truck dealer did, I'd hope for Toyota to go down in flames too. I become vengeful when I get screwed.

I don't fault you for your reactions at all. I just wanted to put forth the fact I had no problems with my GMs (except the Corvette steering wheel lock thing). I did not have to deal with the dealerships for any issues so I cannot really comment on them. Chrome and Malorn are entilted to their opinions but I do not share them. :)

I don't remember if I posted this "Tom the Dancing Bug" cartoon last year. I always think of it when I see Hummer advertising:

The only thing green about the Hummer is the amount of green that's filtering directly to OPEC. :p
