trunk capacity

Don't forget if you take out the carpet and lift out the plastic thing in the trunk(forget what it's called) you'll get alot more storage space in the trunk, er boot for my friends across the pond ^_^

 

The Prius is a hatchback and therefore doesn't have a "trunk" or "boot". If you put anything large back there it will be visible from the outside. Smaller items can be hidden under the "window blind" cover. For golf bags and carts, you'd have to fold down the rear seats. They would probably fit that way, but you'd be able to see them from the outside, and to be sure you really should go to a Toyota dealer and check.

 

You might be surprised what the dealer is willing to let you try. Before we bought our Prius, I took our dog, a very sheddy and rambunctious Australian shepherd, to the dealership to see if she'd fit comfortably in the back with the hatchback closed. (She does.) It's worth it to try fitting your golf equipment in the back before you buy, and I bet they'd let you test it out.

I have been unable to fit two full sized golf bags in without putting down at least one side of the rear seat, cover or no. If you don't want everyone to know that you are going golfing, you will need to keep the Lexus. FWIW: I can get one set of clubs and my (non-motorized) folding three wheeled trolley in the hidden area of the trunk, but it's a tight fit (the clubs have to go in diagonally with the bag stuck into the right side cubby hole, where it just fits. The driver than snuggles into the opposite corner behind the back seat.

I have a similar issue when tranporting my bicycle in my Prius -- I have to put the rear seats down in order to fit the bike in, and therefore part of the bike is visible even with the cargo cover closed. My solution was to go out and buy a gray blanket that matches the interior color of the car and use that to cover the part of the bike that is visible. So a passer-by can tell that something lumpy is in the car beneath the blanket, but they don't know what (or how valuable) it is. Also because the blanket is the same color as the rest of the interior, it's not as noticeable -- if you look directly into the car you see there's something there, but if you're just walking by and not paying attention you probably won't notice anything. It's not a perfect solution, but it generally works.

 

I am able to fit backpacking gear for 3 people for 4 days (full packs) as well as gear for the post trip clean up, and the three people comfotably in my prius. no seats folded down. and almost nothing in the back seat.

golf gear should not be a problem.

The US version of the Yaris seems a little different from the UK version.

My step-daughters Yaris sits in the drive next to my Prius and I will try and take a look this evening to see if I think the Prius boot is twice the size. But I doubt it with the Tonneau cover closed.

 

I had the same issue with downhill skis. I've currently got a Corolla and the skis will not fit into the trunk without folding a seat down. It is close to fitting, but impossible. I actually took the skis to the dealership to try fitting them into the Prius' cargo area "trunk equivalent."

As soon as I looked at the space, I knew it wouldn't work, because it appeared to be almost precisely the same dimensions. As I feared, it was a very close fit, but even taking the covers off the corners (those cubby-hole things) they wouldn't quite fit.

The salesman actually managed to put the seat back up, though, pinning the skis with the seat. Don't know if that is a good solution, but we'll see (I'm buying the car anyway).

My solution was to ride a unicycle instead. It easily fits in any trunk.

Using a matching gray blanket is a very good idea.
