I bought a Prius 2008 with Package 4 (not the tour model) Friday a week ago. I am also new to the forum. I have been testing the different features that everyone has been talking about. I have not been able to get the voice command to work accept in the bluetooth mode using dial by name with the address book showing or the dial by number feature. I thought there is a feature to work with the radio as well. Such as saying am or fm after pushing the the voice command button on the steering wheel. I have the JBL radio upgrade that is part of package 4. I noticed the Toyota manual does not speak of the voice command option for the radio. Has Toyota dropped the option or am I doing something wrong? Sorry for the long post. Great forum!

Thanks. I have seen other lists that were similar. When I use the voice command in the telephone mode I see a response right of way. When I try the radio with the same process I get no response. It is as if I did not press the voice button on the steering wheel. I wonder if anyone is successfully switching the radio or changing the temperature on a 2008 with a voice command? Thanks again.

I can verify using commands for the climate control in my '08 (temperature 73 degrees). I've only had it a week and haven't investigated the audio controls much as I'm waiting for my new Sirius tuner. I have a little trouble with voice dial by number...it thinks I say Nine when I say Five. So, I'm learning to speak again. :D

I am getting the same results with the voice dial. I take it that it is normal for the system. I tried again with the temperature and it did not work. I am starting to think I have a problem with the car (a minor one granted) but I still have not ruled out operator error yet. Could you tell me the exact process you use to give the command to change the temperature maybe I am doing something wrong. My phone works but the rest does not.

Yeah, the voice dial seems to like my Mom's voice better. I had her try it a few times and it was always perfect for her. Which brings to mind one thing - other people can't be talking while you're trying to talk to the Prius. That will always go badly. ;)

When I have given voice commands for the climate control I've usually been at the Information or Energy screens. I'll press the talk button, wait for the go ahead beep and say "temperature 83 degrees" and the system confirms and changes the temperature. It's worked flawlessly, unless someone else is talking at the same time. Oh, when changing temperatures, it doesn't seem to have the problem recognizing fives for me, as it does with the phone. Go figure!

I'll try out some audio commands during my morning commute and let you know how that goes.

It's sure fun to discover all these new things!

    Dale,
Thanks. I am thinking the temperature and audio voice recognition is not included with my Prius 2008 since package 4 does not include the Navigation gps.

Be also aware that wind noise will affect microphone performance. the microphone is located in the overhead courtesy light module. Be especially aware of the a/c fan being at higher speeds or the vents pointing up toward the ceiling or a window open.

Anything that competes with your voice will affect command performance as well as sound quality of your hands free / blue-tooth connected phone.

I've never been able to control the temperature with voice commands on my Prius, I always figured it doesn't support metric/celsius...

I have to resort to using the "old fashioned" steering wheel controls. ;)

    Roland,
Sorry to hear that! At one point I considered a package #4. I would have hoped the voice command was more than just the phone. I mainly wanted the factory leather, which includes the nav. A nice, yet expensive bonus! I did try it out some audio commands today and it did work. It sucks they don't include that on the pkg #4.

    Dale,
Thanks for verifying that the Prius 2008 works with the navigation option. I am going to check it out with the dealer in a few days just to close the loop. I will get them to show me another 2008 with package 4 that does not work before I give up.

Based on how the bluetooth works I do not think I have a microphone issue. Voice Dial by name works. When I press the voice recognition button on the steering wheel (when I am not on the phone screens) nothing happens such as the radio muting nor the screen prompting. Simply no reaction. I can live with the buttons if that is the case, in fact I would most likely use the buttons anyway in the long run. I will let you. thanks again
