Just wondering if I can leave my Ipod plugged into the jack. I just want to ask to make double sure that the IPOD won't be pulling any juice off the battery while the car is off, even if I leave the IPOD on and in play mode.

    Thanks,

    Floyd

The 3.5mm jack? should be no issue at all.

I leave one of my iPod(s) plugged into the 3.5mm audio jack and the power adapter (Belkin) plugged into the 12v power jack inside the center console. The 12v power jack is switched off when the car is powered off, so there is no issue with running down the battery.

Thanks ! I didn't even think of that. I can get one of those power adapters and keep it charged without it ever leaving the car.

How do you play yours ? I bought the belkin cable that lets the cable roll in and out automatically. That's pretty cool. Then I just let the end of that cable come outside of the front lip of the center console. It didn't seem to harm it.

This way, I can control the Ipod very easily. One of these days I may spring for a device that lets me control it by the steering wheel, but for now, that works good.

    I have one of these:

    http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage...oduct_Id=193794

The dock connector is plugged into the iPod and the 3.5mm audio cable plugs into the adapter and into the jack in the center console.

When I'm using the iPod, I pull it out and put it in the nearest cupholder running the cable just to the side of the latch for the console lid. There is just enough clearance for the cord. When I'm done with it, I stow it in the console where it can't be seen.

Is that all you need is that item? It says something about a dock? Do you just need to plug the 3.5mm from the ipod to the aux input?

    Thanks!

All you need to listen to your iPod through the Prius sound system is a male-to-male 3.5mm connection. Plug one end into the iPod, the other into the Aux input (in the center console), and then turn on the sound system to the Aux setting. The controls on the steering wheel do not work (except for volume), but you get much better sound than connecting through an FM transmitter.

Actually, if you only want to play the iPod, you only need a 3.5mm audio cable that you can get from Radio Shack or other electronics store. If you want to charge the iPod at the same time, then you need the item that I linked to or an equivalent version from another company. There are other companies that make similar chargers, but I like the Belkin one.

The connector that you plug the iPod into to sync or charge it is called the dock connector. The Belkin adapter plugs into that connector on the iPod. It gets the audio signal from the dock connector in addition to charging the iPod battery

Yes, although you will get slightly better sound if you plug into the Belkin adapter (it has a 3.5mm line output) instead of using the headphone jack of the iPod. The Belkin adapter has an adjustable amplifier built in so that you can adjust for the best sound.

So you can either: plug into the iPod headphone jack and the Aux input

    or

plug into the Belkin adapter and the Aux input
