There is a lot of good information on other threads about this and many recommend Goodyear Assurance TripleTread. I am planning on getting Comfortread when mine are up for replacement for the noise and ride improvements. We got some for my wife's vehicle and they are quite nice.

Depends on your road and weather conditions also. If you post more detail about your location/weather others may have some different suggestions for you.

    Hi Quaker,

I have my personal favorite for an all around passenger all season tire (Goodyear Assurance TripleTreds), but you should start by reading the excellent thread entitled "Tire Upgrade ... Lessons Learned" and started by nyprius. I've linked this thread for you here:

    Good luck.

My personal favorite is the Micheline MXV4+, but we live in snow country. They allow me to run all-season tires, but still get good mileage.

I replaced my GY Integrities with Michelin MXV4+ tires at 44.5k miles and they performed well for 55k miles (they could have gone 60k, but winter approached). I now run Nokian WR tires on my 2004 Prius and so far they are great. Handle well like the Michelins (much better than the Integrities) in dry, wet, and unlike the Michelins also do well in snow. They appear to get even better MPG than the Michelins, but only 2500 miles so far and that is too little data to tell for sure.

Are original Prius tires OK in snow and ice?

Just bought a 2008 Prius and notice that the car slips in minor wet conditions. It slipped several times when I had stopped on wet leaves and then tried to move forward to make a turn, and slips on both slight hills and flat roads barely covered by snow. The VSC symbol comes on and I can feel the loss of control as the wheels slip. Is this a real Prius problem, is my vehicle a lemon, or is it the tires? - Goodyear Integrity. I hesitate to replace the tires if it's the car. This is dispiriting because I fear driving it in the ice and snow now.

I think the consensus on this board is that the performance of the stock Integrities in rain, snow and ice, at worst "sucks", and at best is only "OK". I personally elected to pay for and get better rain/snow/ice performing tires (the TripleTreds), even though the car only had 1000 miles on it. I donated the Integrities to my tire installer.

The VSC and Traction Control may be a little sensitive on the Prius, and unfortunately, you can't turn them on and off. But the loss of direct control you feel is the VSC/Traction Control taking control of the vehicle and which, in any event, has as its original cause the initial slippage caused by the Integrities' performance in rain/snow/ice.

I understand that there are other good and perhaps better performing rain/snow/ice all season tires out there than my TripleTreds (e.g., Michelin HydroEdges, Michelin Pilot Exalto All Season), but I don't have personal experience with them. I can tell you however that in rain, my TripleTreds do seem to stick to the road like glue.
