    Interesting points...

    - The electric motor will be all new, and different than that in the Prius.
    - The emissions will NOT be PZEV, but will be SULEV instead.

    Most importantly in a vehicle as large as a Highlander, the new system features a larger-capacity battery and all-new high-speed electric motor that will deliver more power than Toyota's current generation Prius hybrid-electric automobile.

    Now how can I fit one of those set-ups into Priapus?
    I'd have the fastest freakin' hybrid on my block. Then again, by default I already hold that title.

    The 2004-2005 Prius is an AT-PZEV vehicle. So is the Ford Escape Hybrid. I'm not sure why the Highlander Hybrid is only SULEV.

    I love the wheel design on the Highlander Hybrid. Also, the updated styling on the whole looks better than the current Highlander and one can assume that the rest of the Highlander lineup will adopt that styling.

    I'd guess it means there's no "bladder" in the fuel tank. IMHO, that's a great thing. I've never been able to fill my Prius over 9 gallons, and that's driving until the last fuel "bar".

    Hazarding another guess, I'd bet that much more emissions from fuel vapors are created by folks "topping off" their tanks and overflowing them, than there are given off by vehicles w/o bladders in the fuel tank.

    LOW SPEEDS

    DECELERATION/BRAKING

    Probably not, but you can be PZEV and *not* have a bladder in the fuel tank. There are BMWs and Fords which do this.

    I found this page a while ago on the EPA's website which seems to indicate otherwise.

    In short... a PZEV vehicle pumps out 1 or less pounds of smog forming pollution per 15,000 miles. A SULEV vehicle is more confusing. There are apparently multiple categories of SULEV depending on the vehicle type!? I'm guessing that the HH would be the 6.6 or under pounds of smog per year, but geez... could the government make this chart any more confusing?

    SULEV and PZEV passenger cars and light trucks meet the same standards for tailpipe emissions. Those other SULEV classes are for medium duty vehicles (trucks over 8500lbs GVWR).
