It's been COLD here, and I've had quite a few short trips...

On the bright side (can it really be that?), DH's Buick is getting about 20-25 MPG right now...

I have 346 miles, 52.3 MPG. Temperature swings from a cold of 47 to a high of 75. The MPG is decreasing every tank fill. Got to do with the cooling weather.

Will see what happens when I finally switch to synthetic oil in a month. It will have 50,000 miles on the odometer then. My tire pressure is at 38F/36R, Kumho Power 758 tires. Mostly freeway driving, 55 - 65 MPH.

I took out the spare tire and jack to save on weight. Hardly any impact on the decreasing MPG. Downward it goes.

I'm at 51.7 mpg and 259 miles on the current tank. My average commute is 25 miles round trip over gently rolling terrain and the temps are in the low 30's.

32.1/175 miles. Not all of us get the very high mileage... I have frequent short trips (under 5 miles/10 minutes).
Still WAY better than my Volvo in the same conditions.

what kills me on most tanks is the rough combination of:

    (1) 2.4 mile trip to work on city streets - engine never shuts off, even on the rare mornings I don't need the defroster.
    (2) uber-cold mornings and no ebh (I get to work at 06:00)
    (3) I prefer to have the car warm up in the driveway so I don't have to drive in a frozen environment (car lives in a car port, not a climate-controlled garage).

I usually wind up between 30 and 40 mpg, using the car the way I do.

4.3 l/100km (or 65.7 imperial mpg for our British Allies, or 54.7 US mpg for our American Allies).

This is around town/suburban driving with lots of hills and a fair bit of 80kph (55 mph) zones. Oh - and it's summer in Australia so most of the time the air conditioner is on.

    :)

That means that on average you drive less than seven miles a day and that your average trip is considerably shorter. Your poor car never gets a chance to get up to operating temperatures. The Prius gets good mileage only after the engine has fully warmed up.

You can start by consolidating trips.

Just filled up after 360 miles... my first tank in the new car!

The car tells me 42.8 mpg... but I calculate 40, on 8.8 gallons filled up.

This is going to get better, right???

Could I ask how you keep your ICE warm, if I use the heater it quickly cools and the engine will not shut down. In the UK temp is just above freezing, if it went down to what some of you are getting I think it would never shutdown or I would have to freeze.

I use a block heater in the mornings and have all but the bottom slat blocked.

    Thanks

    Gary

Horrible Christmas running around and short hops about the place with extra passengers and air conditioner has knocked my mileage about this week. I had to fill up with only 860km on the tank and the second last bar on the gauge had just gone off. Put about 41 litres in from memory, not going out to get the receipt. Worked out to 4.7L/100km. My display was reading 4.5L/100km. I'm a little disappointed.

    In myself not the car.
I'm afraid this week will suck too, with Christmas parties and dropping of presents tomorrow. Reading now is 4.4L/100km with just 28km on since I filled up. I live at the top of a hill and my consumption goes up on the way up the hill.

In flat, warm Florida, mine reads 56.4 after 188 miles.
