So.. The car I currently want is a Magnetic Gray Package #2. At this one dealership I am talking with, they only have the black color in that package. The salesman said he could look to do a dealer trade during our phone conversation earlier today, but I just received an e-mail from him that he'd be willing to lower the price (Before, he mentioned the price was $23,569.00).

Now, I really want the Magnetic Gray, but with my situation, I need a car by mid-January, so the color becomes less of an issue (Besides, I don't mind the black color so much). I'm just wondering, how much more dollars can I shed off the initial $23,569.00??

I will be buying the same car this saturday, except I don't really have any preference in color. I have already requested quotes from dealerships through edmunds.com. The TMV prices from edmunds.com for a 2008 Prius Package #2 is $21.7k for the Los Angeles area and I have only received 1 quote so far from Wondries Toyota in Alhambra for $22.7k. What price should I be aiming for for a realistic decent deal?

Both of your prices seem really good. I bought mine In Northern VA for $23,350. I relly did not haggle, I just asked what the best price they would offer for Package #2. Springield Toyota was $1000 below the others.

Just yesterday I purchased a Magnetic Gray Package #2 from Miller Toyota in Culver City. I was able to get it for $21,900 + fees ( tax & license). In addition, I was able to receive $400 toward my down payment by using the College Graduate program. My 2nd lowest quote from Southern California (Los Angeles Area) was $21,921. Out of curiosity, I received quotes from Northern California with the lowest $21,800 and the rest were in the ballpark. I'm not sure how good of a deal I received, but I hope this helps you.

I bought mine on Saturday, it's a 2008 package #2 for $22,421. It's actually $22,222, but I got them to throw in sirius radio with free 9 month subscription($199 dollar value).

I just picked up a 2008 magnetic gray package 2 for 22,800, which came to 24,000 out the door.

I used internet for pricing, but found it difficult to get real prices--several dealerships called or emailed just to say they would beat anyone else's written offer, or just inviting me to come in and they would take care of me. I had to push hard to get a clear, firm quote, and was limited by wanting just a couple of different colors (gray or black).

In the end, one dealer called with that price for a car they could get in about a week from a sister dealer about 100 miles away.

I'm looking at picking up this same car and package this weekend, and so far this is what we are looking at.

They are offering 4K, for the trade in of the jeep.

The sticker on the Prius is: 23,709.

One place is offering 20K out the door TTL : with sales tax at 6%.

I'm waiting to hear back from there competitor but on the phone he thinks he can do 19K out the door.

I think 19K is pretty decent...

    Thoughts?

Appears to be almost $500 below invoice. Did you have a trade in of do dealer financing? I'd be surprised the dealer would go that low on the deal unless there was profit in other areas...

Not counting the price of the mats, the invoice for package #2 is $21,873. I paid $21,909, and I have seen other people paying as low as $21,700.

No trade in or financing. They tried to sell a bunch of things to my husband after I signed at that price but we declined.:)

Bought a 2008 package #2 (magnetic gray) here in central california this week. Invoice including floor mats was $22,454. Paid $22,300, or $150 under invoice. (Plus tax, title, and license & reg.; paid cash, no trade-in)

In retrospect, it seems I could have got it for even less. Seems to be many of them sitting on the lot right now.

Word to the wise, do all your haggling over the internet ahead of time, don't even set foot in a dealership till you have the offer you like in writing. Have them fax it to you, and if you want to avoid them harassing you for not paying a bogus "documentation fee" or something similar on top of the agreed upon price, have them specify what and how much the fees will be on that fax.

(Also, your state's DMV website will probably have a breakdown of the title, license, & reg fees you'll need to pay.)

Invoice not including mats is $21,873. Did the dealer add other options or inflate the invoice price?

Invoice varies depending on the part of the country...and also will include destination charge and Toyota Dealer Advertising (TDA), which does not always show up in the online "invoice" guides...

$22,400ish is consistent with the invoice numbers I hav seen for package #2 with carpets

Frumpy and I are both in California. I personally wouldn't include TDA as part of the invoice price. Anyway, it's the actual purchase price that matters.

TDA is on the invoice, and there is no dealer profit in it. What you re charged is what the dealer pays...
