Adding an amp

    I have the base audio system in my 04 and would like to add an amplifier and 10" sub. Does anyone know what output I can get from the back of the head unit? i'm trying to figure out if the amp I get should have high or low level inputs. Thanks

    I don't think there are any low (line) level outputs. Would need to tap into the speaker outputs.

    Since there really isn't a standard battery under the hood like most cars where do I hook up the amps power source? Can I attach it to the positive connection they provide under the hood for jumpstarts? I was going to place the amp in the back in the cargo area, is there a closer place to tap into?

    I can't say for certain, but since the 12v battery is in the back I would assume you could tap into it right there. It would be a lot easier than running a power cable all the way from the front.

    Just be sure that if you attach it directly to the battery that there's some way to shut it off as a direct battery output wouldn't be switched like an accessory line.

    Considering the size of the 12v battery in the back, a moderately decent-sized amp would probably drain it in only a few hours.

    Yes, you are suspose to attached it to the main battery. All amps have a remote on/off connection, which you would need to splice the one going into the back of the head unit and attached to the amp. That way the amp will turn on/off with the head unit. I would never run the sound system without turning on the car, or the battery would drain quickly.

    To connect the amp, you will need one that accepts speaker level inputs, or get a line level adapter, which reduces the speaker-level signal to a pre-amp level.
