iPhone Mounting Options - what's best?

I'd like a system to mount my iphone in my 2007 Prius, but I've been looking around, and I'm having a hard time figuring out the best solution, particularly when I can't lay my grubby fingers on it.

I'd like it to mount somewhere near the display or down near the cupholders in the center console.

It should have a "dock", so that once I set the iPhone in there, it will charge the iphone, and provide audio connections to the stereo. It'd be great if it was as easy and convenient as the Apple dock, but with more support for the phone.

ProClips seems to come close, but doesn't have the cable attachment. I've heard of people using the one for the 30GB ipod, but that it also requires some modification (and I'm way too lazy and clumsy to do that).

Any suggestions for the very best iphone mount/dock for the Prius?

    Thanks-

I'm probably not the one to ask; for me, increasing the mobility of my telephone means purchasing a longer cord!!

Re: iPhone Mounting Options - what's best?

I'm looking for the best iPhone mounting solution as well. I have a VAIS with an iPod in the glovebox, so getting audio of the iPhone isn't necessary, but of course would be nice.

For me, I just want the phone where I can see it, probably just to the right of the head unit, where there is a blank space (silver dash panel detail). This would be for easy phone/Bluetooth access and display, and also would ideally have a swivel that would allow horizontal mode for web usage, usually for the passenger. Also having the Google traffic maps right next to the built-in nav would be great.

I was originally thinking about something adhesive with a sturdy dock interface so I could just drop it in, then ideally it would have a small cord that I could fish down to the cigarette adapter. I suppose I could bring the VAIS cord out, but I like the idea of having my "car" iPod permanently installed (not that I go anywhere without my iPhone).

So now I'm thinking about this solution:

Use a combination of these two items:

    http://www.cell-phone-accessories.com/dual-dc-power-supply-extension.html
    http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/tuneflex06#

I think this meet all my needs. Charger, sturdy cradle, don't gum up the dash with adhesive. It even carries the audio signal with a 1/8-inch breakout cable at the base (where it plugs into the lighter) which could easily be routed to the VAIS secondary inputs if needed.

This might not be the most elegant solution, but I don't think it would look too bad, having a sleek black gooseneck coming up from the right side of the car, and would be easily removed if necessary. It seems that the tuneflex works with the iPhone.

    Thoughts??

this is the perfect setup as far as i know. i tried most of cupholders and this is way beyond.

and this for auxilliary. it is near perfect rather than use fm transmitter.
it charges your iphone and at the same time giving you stereo and clear sound.
just one cord, and it hides everything.

So to use that from circuit city, you'd first need the DICE integration setup?

i took a quick pics, sorry its done only on a camera phone. just to give you a idea.

center armrest, the charger and the aux what looks like. you dont have to put the audio cable on the iphone because its already connected to the charger :)

now the iphone with the dock. see the only cord is the charger and nothing else (stealth aux). you will hear the true PREMIUM JBL on this. forget about the lousy FM Transmitter sound.

That looks pretty nice. Does the door behind it still open? (the one under the stereo) ??

In other words, you only need to spend another $2k to get decent sound in your Prius.

FYI, the cradles sold in the Priuschat shop now have the iPhone-sized grippers.

did you notice any type of high pitched whine when connecting this unit up? I tried that and get a very high pitched whine. I have even tried different cables, but I still get that audible whine. I am wondering if the Autopilot is bad or if that is just what they all do.

I bought this one from proclipusa.com, and am hoping it'll make a decent solution for my iPhone.

I'm going to use this in conjunction with the DICE mount/DICE iPod kit -- still haven't figured out how I'm going to route all the wires, but that's the fun part! :D

They also sell this one that goes next to the MFD, but I didn't want the wires running all over the place:

This looks like the solution I have been looking for. The Griffin device seems to be made for the an iPod. Have you have any problems using it with your iphone. How does it work when answering the phone thought the bluetooth in the car?
