Help, 2008 package one, don't have aux port for my I-pod

    Can someone tell me what I need to do and get, to have my I-pod play through the single CD radio?

    Would I have to remove the lower glove compartment to get at the back of the radio or take more of the dash apart and maybe pull the radio out?

    What kind of accessory port, will I feel and find back there?
    What type of cable and wires do I need to get?

    I'm not looking to buy a Dice unit right now. Just wanna get my I-pod to work on the cheap.

    If you're looking for a fast fix, you could try one of these. The quality is decent, but not as good as an aux jack/accessory port.

    Unless your 2008 is different than mine, the aux port should be inside the center console near the front side bottom of the console. Poke around in there and you should find it. You have to flip open a little tiny access door.;)

    We have a stripped, base model. Think it's a package 1.

    For 2008 Toyota doesn't include the aux port in the center console as standard equipment anymore. (Bastards!) :rolleyes:

    We really couldn't afford a higher package car with the beating we took on our trade in, loan, negative equity, etc...

    I know there's a lot of experienced techy Prius people here...
    I can't believe that no one has thrown me some more info about taking dash apart, and giving me the heads up about what wire / cable I need to get, if there is indeed a port on the back of the single CD radio. :(

    I have the aux port for my IPOD but I wonder why the IPOD does not charge automatically while being used.

    Also, is there any way to get the IPOD song titles to read on the display? :confused:

    The SoundLinQ SLI from Vais Technology should do the trick for your package #1 Prius.

    It plugs into the Prius' factory radio harness and gives you a universal AUX input and a separate iPod interface.

    Here's what I'm waiting for:

    This will play and charge simultaneously, as well as allow all steering wheel controls to control the iPod. I hope it will also display text on the screen as well.

    Unfortunately, the 2008's are NOT listed as compatible, yet...

    I've used the Neo Ion on my past two Honda Pilots and the sound is incredible! As a brand-new 2008 Package 6 owner, I find that the aux port in the center compartment is terribly noisy and any placement of the iPod seems to be very uncomfortable when changing tracks.

    I've been reading the various blogs about how the Vais and similar units are not performing as expected. Imagine how much money Toyota could be making on a factory option of this installed?

    I love my new Prius and can't wait for the compatible Neo Ion to become available!

    Maybe I need to go to toyota dealership and find out what cables I need rather then buying a expensive aftermarket fancy device to get my ipod to work?

    Can anyone tell me about the toyota wire that plugs into back of my single cd radio to run a aux jack for my ipod, just like what came in base model prius's prior to 2008?

    I can't address the issues with the AUX in plug. Alas, the 2005 didn't come with it even as an option.

    Don't bother. Sound quality on these FM transmitters in general is really lousy, and you have to fiddle with finding the right "dead" FM station to tune to, which is a MAJOR hassle if you cover any miles as you have to retune, etc. I had several different FM transmitters, and ended up going with the DICE. They have just added fully functional MFD browsing to it, so it should be good, assuming they got the bugs out. Can be ordered via the PriusChat Shop, I believe. See this discussion:

    Toyota parts guy could not give me any info.

    Service guy couldn't either.
    He suggested he would have to see the car which sounds to me like a big bill one way or another.
