Woo-hoo! You probably already know this, but...

Reading and following both the owner's manual and scheduled maintenance guide will save you trouble and expense.

Do Not second guess the fuel gauge. If you try you will eventually run out of gas and feel very silly.

    Welcome,

Newbie since 12-7-07, a little over 2,000 miles now.

Realistic mileage in winter 35-40 mpg, with a range of 250 miles to 300 miles, plan on 6-7 Gal fill ups.

Welcome mlp. Keep track of every gallon you put into it. Figure the MPG and report it to PriusChat. It will be good to see how the newer Prius does. Mine is a 2005 -- current lifetime MPG is 46.5 :)

I've bought gas twice so far. A typical wk for me includes 5 days of commuting to work, 34 miles each way. I used to need gas every 4th day. My gas has lasted 7 days. A full tank was $25. I have 1000 miles already. I can see how the amt of heat you are using affects how much mileage you get.

On the day after Christmas, I bought my car in Sacramento, California. Drove it home to Texas and got a consistent 45 Mpg on the highway.

On the long highways, the speed limit is 85 MPH, and the car would indicate "dangerous water overheating." I don't think that the car likes to be driven that fast or that hard for long periods.

Scared, I took the car to an El Paso, TX, dealer to check its fluids and otherwise find out about the overheating. The Prius specialist mechanic there checked it out and said that the computer had NOT registered any trouble and that all levels were fine, etc. I drove on.

Just picked up mine, a few hours ago.
I live in Hutto, TX just north of Austin.
I don't know what my mileage is, yet, but it's nice watching the different screens.
It seems like there is a Prius on every corner in Austin - where I work. Hope it is like that in other towns and cities across America.
I drive about 25,000 miles a year at work and get reimbursed for my gas as if I get 25 mpg. :p So, the Prius will make me money. (They also throw in enough more money to pay about 3/4th of the car note.)
