And we all know this is not to be confused with another compound H2O

Biodiesel can be made at home, if you have a source for vegetable oil, there's quite a few references on the net.

Right. The best you could possibly do is get the same amount of energy back -- not surpisingly, the energy it takes to split water into H2 and O2 is the same as what you get when you combine (burn) them back into water. If it didn't balance, you'd have the making of a perpetual motion machine.

That's the theoretical best -- in real life there are losses in the splitting, and losses in capturing the energy from burning it.

The only reason hydrogen is being considered at all for vehicles is that it's a portable store of energy that can be made easily from most other energy sources, including non-portable ones like geothermal or nuclear.

Re: the original poster's signature, the Mythbusters did test one of these hydrogen gadgets. It made minuscule amounts of hydrogen, not enough to affect the car's running.

Is this anything like "Instant water"?

"Instant water consists of dehydrated water. Just add water to reconstitute."

The "burning water in your car" thing has been around a long time. So have bolt-on magnets on the fuel lines. They are bunk, but there is a technology the car companies are working on that is amazingly similar to this to the uninitiated.

Just as we blend ethanol and gasoline, researchers such as Australia's Uli Kruger are working to combine hydrogen and gasoline (Kruger's involved in several alternative energy projects there; you can Google him). The two fuels don't normally mix, of course, and this is not a simple "bolt on" process, but it does have some unique benefits that allow tuning and stretching the fossil fuel tremendously. When hydrogen gas is injected into the air stream of a diesel engine, there's a "cascade of emissions-reducing and mileage boosting effects." The hydrogen burns very cleanly, and displaces half the diesel used for combustion, effectively doubling the mileage and halving the emissions. The water that is a result of the combustion process is used in these engines to cool the exhaust stream and the engine runs much cooler, reducing the NOX emissions inherent in heating up metal.

Fast Company magazine profiled Jonathan Goodwin, a self-educated mechanic who is a genius at extending the MPG and range of vehicles like Hummers and large pickups using blended fuel technologies. GM engineers were pretty excited about his bio-diesel Hummer, and his shop in Kansas is converting cars for high-dollar enthusiasts like Governor Schwarzenegger and entertainer Neil Young. Working with Kruger, Goodwin has developed bio-diesel engines that can inject a number of other fuels to extend the range and slash emissions: natural gas, ethanol, or hydrogen. His bio-diesel / hydrogen powered Hummer has double the horse power, half the emissions, and slashed the MPG of the bio-fuel ... the thing has a 700 mile range now. And in the corner of his shop ... a future hybrid bio-diesel/hydrogen and electric Hummer that he thinks will get around 60 MPG and go 0 - 60 in about 5 seconds. Imagine the Hummer next to you smoking the tires accelerating from the light and exceeding your mileage! And, not using any fossil fuels.

i salute you 'truth' i dont know if that will work but you can get the info for free on a bit torrent

HEY so you bone heads type bit torrent and water4gas and then at least try for free.... i hope that guy is telling the truth and that he makes some money... really though its the earth mother who i owe my bones and blood too, she getting hot under the collar and we better do our best to cool her from freezing and hold her from burning up...she dont mind which way she go

while your all at it why not try looking at some of the stuff gary vesperman is up to he's got a file of free energy supression that deserves a look at at least and he got some interesting links to other groups who have thrown themselves into all this...amateurs!!! big up ya truth x mwa big love massive. peace

Nothing too mysterious about making your own biodiesel from waste vegetable oil (wvo) as our very own Galaxee and her DH are starting to do, and plenty of other folks are doing already.

But just mention the water for gas scam and the nuts come out of the woodwork! They're claiming that the gas or diesel burns more efficiently if you add microscopic amounts of H2 to the mix. But the combustion efficiency of modern engines is about as good as it can get, and the thermal efficiency does not change by changing the fuel mix, because that's a characteristic of the engine itself. Too bad we allow people to graduate from high school without having learned to think first.

Just in case someone missed it [eye roll]... HHO is H2O, or WATER.
It isn't making anything. It is water.

Last time I checked, water in the carburator is BAD.

Why not just wait for the 100 mpg carburator? after all, the oil companies have been suppressing that one for years. I'm sure that it's about to come out on the market. ;)

well, we're actually going to be running straight-up unprocessed (well, filtered and dewatered) wvo which requires an in-car adaptation kit. (car needs registration and brake work first.) but you certainly can make your own biodiesel at home from wvo with the right equipment and dump it straight into the fuel tank.

local biodiesel co-ops collect wvo, but i'm not sure if all if their biodiesel comes from wvo or if some is made from other sources.

It's probably the same nut everytime. The operator of that crappy water4gas website probably looks at referrers, and then tries to push his useless snakeoil with unimaginative testimonials.

Sounds like everyone's a kook and a hack. So the problem isn't making hydrogen, it's making it fast and efficiently.

Water4gas seems like a low-level electrolysis machine. Basically, it charges the water, and causes the components of the water to separate, producing oxygen and hydrogen. Not outlandish or malarkey; we use electrolysis on the submarines to produce oxygen. And produce it we do, in large quantities.

And I imagine that it would produce an improvement in mileage. Adding oxygen would create a more thorough combustion of the fuel just by lowering the flash point of the gasoline. The hydrogen would act as a booster for the gasoline and add a little more bang to the explosion.

My problem with water4gas is this: in order to produce oxygen and hydrogen in the machine we run on the boat, it's done with pure, deionized water - it has absolutely NO impurities because it goes through a distilling process as well as several other filtration processes (it conducts no electricity because it's so pure). We take that pure water, put it in a stainless steel cell, and in that cell, we mix it with an electrolyte. Then, once that's done, we zap the water with a high-amperage charge to produce the hydrogen and oxygen.

No, with Water4gas, they're doing it in a glass jar, and they're masking their process with a ton of "mumbo-jumbo techno-speak" in order to make the system sound good. If you want a system like Water4gas, look for a machine that performs its task in a properly engineered setup, like this one. They're out there, they just cost a couple of bucks more.

Water4gas looks like a big waste of money, IMHO.

(EDIT: I am NOT endorsing anyone's system. I would avoid using any "Mileage Maker" or anything similar unless it's backed by a corporation that will warranty your vehicle and provide reimbursement for repairs if their device causes damage to your vehicle.)

Another problem: Don't forget, on your boat, you have a sizable nuclear reactor to provide the electricity used for electrolysis. In a car, the electricity comes from the engine, and in the process, burns gas.

Well, after reading the ebay auction info, I found one glaring problem right off the bat.

I'm quoting from the ebay ad here: [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][SIZE=+1]Our electrolyzing hydrogen and oxygen generator splits the gases in H2O (water)through the input of excess electrical output from your alternator. This excess electrical output is generated by your alternator whether you use it or not. Our MileageMaker generator simply allows you to stop wasting the excess energy and uses the energy to split the electrolyte into combustible gases.

There is no "excess electrical output" from the alternator. when there is little or no electrical load placed on the alternator, the effort to spin the alternator is minimal. When a strong load is placed on it, the effort to spin the alternator is greatly increased. You can experience this effect by noting your engine RPMs will drop slightly when you turn on a heavy electrical load such as high beams and/or blower motor on Hi. This is the additional work it takes to create that electricity to power those loads.

So yes, the alternator is spinning all the time when the engine is running, but there is no "excess" current being generated, as there is no demand for it. Where there is demand (such as when you might switch on this H generator), then the engine will be put under more load to turn the alternator. More work = more energy required. No free lunch.

It's statements like this that completely invalidate the entire claim being made. My feeling is that if you're going to try and sell something such as this, you'd better be 100% accurate on your statements and claims, otherwise with one mistake, the whole thing goes down in flames.

Maybe this is a picky point, I don't know. I have yet so see any completely independent results of adding a very small amount of Hydrogen gas to the air/fuel stream. Does anyone know of any? All the ones I've seen so far seem to be pretty suspect.

I do know that some seemingly bogus claims I've read about do work. For example, adding acetone to my diesel engine's fuel actually boosts MPG about 10%. I know this because I keep meticulous mileage records, and sometimes I forget to add the acetone, and the MPG's drop. Every time.

I also know there are some benefits with water injection systems. So I don't have a closed mind about these "new" ideas, but I can't seem to find any real good scientific studies anywhere, or any "real world" results from independent folks, regarding H injection.

    Perhaps there's a reason! :D
