Yesterday, I sold to a local used car dealer my 2007 BMW 328xi and made the switch to a more sensible car from my local Toyota dealership - a brand spanking new 2008 Prius with Package 6 in Magnetic Grey. The price was fantastic; well below MSRP.

I commute about 150 miles per day; about 28,000 miles a year. I owned the Bimmer for about 8 months and had logged about 23,000 miles. While that car was absolutely fun to drive, with lots of power, it just wasn't me. It really wasn't the message I wanted to portray - you know the joke about the difference between porcupines and BMW owners. Plus, the dealer was awful when the car needed service, not to mention that the premium gas was getting very expensive. Although the overall mpg at 28.5 was not all that bad - my PRIUS is blowing that out-of-the-water!)

Today, I put my first 150 miles on the car and am loving it. I averaged 50 mpg so I have no complaints in that regard. I am pleased.

I love the technology and the niche factor of the car. Plus, my 12 year old daughter is thrilled that I am doing something to protect our planet. I too am thrilled.

The only thing I'm getting used to the rearward view and the shifter, but that should be fine with time.

I have no problem with the acceleration nor the handling. They suit me fine. I've yet to experience snow or rain, but I expect the car will be competent.

I have minor concerns about EMF...but can't find anything really concrete on the subject. Lot's of differing opinions. I guess if I grow an ear on my back, I'll assume something was amiss.

All in all, I am thrilled with my purchase and am happy to now be a part of this forum.

    Regards all.

Congratulations on joining the club! With your commute you'll appreciate the jump in fuel economy in no time. And, if you're in a chillier area, you should be able to do a little better when it starts getting warmer. I have a 100 mile/day commute and average in the high 40's to low 50's in the Winter, but jump to the mid-to-high 50's in the Summer.

Snoop around the site for tips on improving your MPG & mods that others have done.

    Enjoy!

Never heard of the joke, but we'll be waiting for your response. :D

BTW, congrats on the new ride. You'll find that gas saving will not be the only saving you are going to benefit from the Prius. As you know, maintenance on a BMW is quite expensive..the Prius is relatively inexpensive to maintain and above all - very easy to change the oil and filter.

The joke asks what's the difference between a BMW and a porcupine....on the porcupine, the pricks on the outside.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome. I'm now up to about 300 miles on my new Prius and averaging about 51 mpg. (Take that all you porcupines!)

I'm enjoying the car, loving the ride, and am glad to be part of this forum.

    Regards,

Great to hear that everyone is loving their Prius. My commute to and from work has been almost no stress at all since I got mine. :) I don't mind cars zipping passed me on the interstate and I keep my speed constant between 68 to 70 mph. Drive safe.
