    Betavier,
buy your next Prius from Finland, then you can have Alcantara as factory fitted option :D

Huh. I guess I missed the alacantra discussion, and assumed from the post about care and cleaning that that's what the fabric was.

yeah, there's been a lot of back and forth discussion. whatever it is, it is holding up better than i expected, what with the light color and all.

I only meant to say that it is micro fiber, which I understand to be a polyester material that naturally repels stains by the nature of it's cell structure, without any added treatment.

Found this old thread about alcantara, and because I ordered my prius with alcantara upholstery, I'd like to correct a couple of things:

1 - It's not a factory option. Toyota sends the alcantara upholstery separately, and it's installed in the country where the car is sold. The original upholstery is removed and put in a plastic bag in the trunk.

2 - The alcantara option for Prius is a very dark grey, not green. Looks posh.

+ The original upholstery is nothing close to alcantara. The difference is huge.

Another testimonial: muddy dog footprints in my Prius' back seat (a friend who wanted to see how his retriever would do in the back seat of a Prius before buying one.)

Wet washcloth, 2 minutes wiping -- voila! I feel like one of those housewives in a commercial.

(BTW, said friend bought his Prius, and the dog is very happy with his choice. :) )

I don't think I'll ever be comfortable eating my car, Tony. (Unless I buy... The WonkaMobile!)

Yes, I could have included the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile... but imagine the size of the rats they\'d need to provide meat-byproducts for that!

I have just ordered my prius with the Ivory interior and it really makes me nervous. It almost looks dirty new. Id go for the silver just to get the grey interior if I Liked the silver. :) EVERYONE seems to have a silver car thses days. No one has had problems with maintaining the Ivory interior?

actually you will find that this interior cleans up better than anything that i have ever seen.

    somethings ive spilled

taco bell sauce (squirted a pack all over the interior including the side of the passenger door from the drivers seat)

    coffee (a few times)

    melted chocolate (thanks son!!)

worst of all (and my fault) left a bright pink gel pen on the seat and the cap popped off. it left a spot about ½" in diameter on the passenger seat. had to be there at least 3 days. it came completely up with plain cold water and a little rubbing.

    after that, i was convinced

    Yet another testimonial....
I spilled some frosty in my car last evening and didn't notice until this afternoon. I read this thread, so I just took a cloth and some water and rubbed it out----it came up very very easily. Kudos to our highly stain resistant fabric!

i drove past something burning with the window down i guess, because i found little ashes all over the tan interior of my car.... ohhhh headache!

again, just took a wet washcloth and rubbed away the gray spots. works on ashes as well as on the clay soil around here. i don't think this car will ever stay dirty, especially with me being such a neat freak.

nobody is allowed to drink anything but water in the car, and i occasionally eat hard candies that won't stain if they fall on the floor and stay there in the heat... something like sweettarts. definitely no chocolate though!

I spilled a teeny bit of chocolate on my seat. I wiped it off with a sponge and plain water and it came up easily. But now there's a ring from where the water was. Any ideas on how to treat a water stain? More water?

Avoid tap water. Try a bottle of filtered water.

i think the key is that very little water is necessary for most cleanups. a damp cloth is all i usually need

I am sorry... I am reading this thread and am ready for the one where someone says "I served a four course italian dinner on the seats of my Prius, sit them dry, and then cleaned it all up with a cotton swab."

    I am warped.

Scrambled eggs and chorizo. Came right out. For those not familiar with chorizo, it is a mexican sausage with a nasty orange grease that comes out of it. Yes, there are those that eat it. My 14 year old did it when I was filling up with gas. I was steamed, but it cleaned right out even after he smeared it around trying to get it off with a dry paper napkin before I saw it. I love kids.

actually for anyone familiar with "Mythbusters" Show. did anyone see that show when they put a couple dead pigs into a nice car to see if the car could be cleaned out afterwards?

well, i tried in my Prius and every bit of blood came out BY ITSELF!! and not even a hint of an odor was left
