    17" EFPC Wheel w/Pirelli Tires

    I see this option on several of the "inventory" cars. Cost is $1500. Any information?

    Thanks.

    Dealer puts cool looking wheels and tires on car.
    Dealer marks up cool looking wheels and tires significantly.
    Dealer makes good profit.

    As to what effect it will have on your car, worse mileage due to extra weight and significantly more power needed to rotate the larger wheels and tires. Break pads will wear more quickly and braking will likely deteriorate to some extent unless the brakes were also upgraded. Check the spedometer to see if they recalibrated the comptuer for the larger tire circumfrence otherwise you spedomter and mileage will be significantly effected with such a large tire size change.

    On the other hand, they probably look darn good!

    Provided the overall outside diameter (rubber) has not changed from the stock tires you will not be changing the gear ratio, and therefore not need to recalibrate the speedo.

    Here is a cool calculator.. 8)

    Calculator let me recheck my thoughts of switching to a 205/55 tire on the original rims. The difference in size is minute: 845 revs per mile versus the original 850 per mile.

    Hey, a guy can dream.

    Calculated values for tire size are OK to get you in the ballpark, but you might be surprised to find that different tires actually measure out differently from the published values.

    5 revs per mile is just outside my rule of thumb for compatible replacement, but not by much. A 195/55 might zero it in closer. Which tire are you thinking about?

    This is an old thread, but as I ponder tires for my future Prius, I've been thinking about tire options (and sizes) a lot. And this looks as good as any thread to chime in with.

    First, something to think about regarding revs per mile. As a tire wears, it gets smaller and the number of revs needed per mile rises. At 1/2 tread left, a tire in the Prius size range will climb about 13 revs/mi. So a 5 rev/mi change isn't going to matter much.

    That said, I've been looking through PriusChat to see if anyone has experience with the Pirelli P6 Four Season tire. Also some other LRR models I'm considering are...

    * Continential ContiTouringContact CH95
    * Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus
    * Pirelli P6 Four Season
    * Sumitomo HTR 200

    Other than good ol' Tire Rack customer comments and track tests, I only have personal experience with the Conti's. They were the stock tread on my MINI Cooper, and were very quiet and soft riding (when new; got much noiser and somewhat harsher with age) but skiddish in the rain. They are some of the lightest tires on the market and I'd expect better than the Integrity, but I wasn't overly impressed.

    Anyone trying any of these on a Prius? I'm leaning towards the Conti or Pirelli mainly for light weight. TireRack says they're 18lb apiece vs. the Integrity 17lb, so there's very little penalty there. Other tires in this size range are 3-6lb heavier.

    Thanks,
    Gary

    Gary -- did you ever get a response, or the tires? I'm interested in the Pirelli P6 for the same reason, 18 lbs, amd maybe the +1 1995-55/15 size.

    I have a 2007 package #6 that came with the tire package that you are talking about. I did not order them, it just so happens that is what was in the lot at the time and I didn't want to wait any longer than I had been so I grabbed it. I love the way it rides, I had the chance to test drive with and without the 17" Pirelli's and I find that although they are a little hard and you feel the road bumps a lot more than the standard tires, they do hug the road nicely and corner nicely. I fill them to about 35psi each and I get about 45mpg. I think if I filled them a little more the mpg would be a little better but road bumps would become a little louder and you would feel the jolt of the road bumps more. They can take a max load of 52psi and the door sticker recommends 35psi. When I first got the car they came with 30psi they are a little softer and quieter but the mpg was around 40. I only have about 3000 miles on the car so far and I am hopeing that the MPG will improve with time. I am still experimenting with different driving styles, when I really try I can get around 55mpg but I was holding up traffic.
    The rims are made by ENKEI
    and the tires are
    Pirelli P215\45\ZR17
    87W M+S
    P ZERO NERO

    I love em.

    Hope this helps.
