Newbie in New Hamshire

    Hello all. Made the switch and am now the driver of my new 08 silver #5.
    The combination of quiet, mileage, technology and economy made the 08 Prius a long overdue choice that I wish I had made before.

    I appreciate the many insights and suggestions available in these forum pages. I plan on starting my modifications with the 15" wheels and or tires first. The stock OEM wheels are 15 x 6 and I think that these would be better used mated to a good low rolling resistance all season radial or mud and snow tire. Then for better climates I would like to get 4 new 16" rims that match the same width as the OEM Prius Touring rims and then match those to some low rolling summer tires.

    Does anyone know the width of the OEM 16" wheels.? Toyota parts doesn't seem to know.

    I'm lookng forward to hearing all opinions and input. Man thanks ahead of time.

    Welcome to the forum. I would assume that the touring wheels will also be 6 inches wide. Anything bigger than that may affect your mpg.

    Thanks. 6JJ? Is that a symptom of the loss in translation? Why not 16JJ x 6JJ or maybe 16 x 6? Somebody's initials perhaps? At $366 per wheel through Toyota maybe JJ is really an acronym for two Japanese words that translates to 'overcharge customer'.

    When I was in my early 20's and 30's, all of my cars had new aftermarket shoes and it made a difference in cosmetic look as well as performance. Now that I have the Prius, I just intend to keep the factory alloy wheels and stick with OEM size tires. Maximizing my mpg is the name of the game for me. ;)

    I am pretty sure the 6JJ is an SAE designation for the rim profile. Its a 6 inch wide rim.

    No comment on the price.

    I have the BT Stiffening Plate.
    It is my opinion that it has more of a noticeable effect on the handling of the standard Prius, than the Touring, since the Touring suspension is already "tighter".

    I love it on mine. I can tell when I'm driving highway speeds with crosswinds... it handles better, and I have less drifting issues. When I get "crazy" and drive a particularly curvy, steep road near us, at a rather "quick" pace, the pitch and roll is more controlled.
