Thanks for the good info here.
I did my over ride today for the CD titles while moving and the phone.
    I have a 2006 pkg#6 so no nav system.
I only had one violet wire to cut.
    I will post pcitures below.

    It works great!

    Thanks again

Looks good! If you're listening to FM and there's a message from the station, this defeat will let you read the message.

    I used a push-on push-off button that I got at Fry's.

Just wanted to say thanks guys. I was determined to create an override for the speed sensor. Based on what I read here and an idea a coworker gave me, I came up with a nearly invisible solution. I bought a magnetic swtich from radio shack ( [url="http://www.radioshack.com/pr...oshack.com/product/index.js...rentPage=family [/url]).
Next, I mounted the switch on the side of the frame under the radio. There is a little compartment that the sensor nicly fits into. I then mounted a magnet on the flip cover of the compartment under the stereo. (In the attached pic, its still taped in place until the glue dried). And thats it.. Now I just open the compartment to defeat the swtich.

I cut away part of the AC vent as I thought it'd hit the switch. I should have checked first as it wasn't required. The cover will fit back in place as is.

Thanks for the clear directions for these mods. I just put 2 SPST push button switches beside the SKS Key button, since there are two cut-outs already. Works great!

Unless I did it wrong the gps switch overide is on a scale of 1 to 10, probably a six. It's not a perfect solution. It seems that you have enough time to enter in the address if you don't make any mistakes or if their are not multiple streets, if this is the case then you have to recycle the switch and wait a few seconds. The software override is more of a hassle up front but works better. I think Coastal Tech stuff is probably a perfect solution but is priced too high for me to pay. Does anyone else have any better solutions

Actually, he had that on his site (calling it the "NAV Enhancement Kit") since about February '05, but didn't start shipping until January '06. That version won't work on the 2006 as it's a micro of the software override.

Thanks to Three60Guy for pointing me in the direction of this thread and everyone for the useful info contained here.

Past couple days have been big changes for this car which just past 1000 miles.
New Stone-colored (special order) leather interior installed by Toyota. (Thanks to $$$$)
Installed XM Radio (time consuming but no injuries to the dash/etc when I took it all apart). (Thanks to the install DVD)
Installed SPST switch for NAV lockout defeat and permanently defeated the BT lockout circuit. (Thanks to priuschaters)

A much more functional and comfortable car now for longer trips.

    Thanks again

Can someone re-post the schematics for the auto lockout mod? I'm interested in trying to do it with a PIC micro so I don't need switches. :) Are the wires from the steering wheel controls available in that big bundle under the vent cover?

Re: automatic version of phone speed lockout defeat

I know that this thread is pretty old but I am hoping that people are still looking at this. Does anyone have the circuit diagram that Brosnan is talking about here? I am working on designing my own based on his post but am having a hard time finding the time to work on it as well as reliable performance. I have sent him a PM but patience is unfortunately not one of the virtues that I have been blessed with.

Send me a PM (i'll need a reminder) and I'll see if I still have it.

I'm ready to try this mod...but still don't understand how to remove the necessary dash panel (to the right of the MFD). Other posters have said that it just "snaps" out. Should I pull on the top or bottom...or both. Must I use any sort of pry tool (screwdriver). Any advice on how to get it out would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It helps to open the top glove box first.
I mine pops out without prying...but it's been off many times so it's probably loose.
I would use a knife or screw driver at the top to start the process of prying off then it comes right out.

Sticky gloves with the rubber dots on them are supposed to work well. Try to pull equally from the top and bottom at the same time. It just jams tighter if you only work the top or bottom alone. Don't use any metal tools, as they will certainly leave marks.

Anyone find the circuit diagram for the automatic sensor block / unblock thing that was discussed earlier?

Many thanks for the tips on removing the dash panel. The explanations made it an easy job. I notice that my 2008 wires appear to be much thinner than those shown in the pictures for this mod. And it appears that they may be easily disconnected by just pulling them out of the panel with needle nose. One poster (with a 2008) let me know that he did that -- and he has just left them disconnected with no ill effects (other than the MPG bars and animated rotating wheels, as mentioned in other posts). I'm thinking I'll try that first. Is there some other reason for going to the work of installing a switch that I'm may not yet fully understand? Thanks.

Figured out that the switch for NAV/GPS is DEFINITELY NECESSARY -- you can't leave it disconnected because the connection is needed for the GPS to track (at least on my 2008). Perhaps you don't need it for PHONE/Bluetooth -- but I didn't alter that connection because that's never been an issue for me: the voice commands to dial by name work fine even while moving. Also, I wasn't gutsy enough to just pull the wire from the box -- which turned out to be a good thing because I needed to put a switch in anyway. I put a push button switch in the glove box (left wall)...and now can use the switch to break the connection and allow NAV/GPS entries. Thanks to all who have added to this thread to make this possible. The switch will be so much handier than the touch screen override that was available on my 2005 but not on the 2008.

In this thread, it is mentioned "The distance display seems to advance and the mileage values and power flow arrows seem normal."

Maybe I am nitpicking the wording, but can someone who has done this mod (preferably on a 2007/2008, I don't know if this makes a difference) confirm with certainty that the instantaneous MPG, average MPG and distance values are unaffected?

One more question please. If the NAV override is selected and you are partially finished with inputting an address or going through the POI database when the override is canceled, do you have to start over with these functions after toggling the override, or do you pick up where you left off?

This is the first time I have read this thread. Thinks might have changed since it was originally posted. I or my passenger can pick out any phone number in my cell phones directory and hit dial on the cell phone and it automatically connects to the cars system while in motion. Maybe this did not work in earlier models but it works in the 2007 model. It sure saves a lot of work.

The NAV override will definately not affect any of those things. The BT override will affect the instantaneous mpg read out and the bars on the Consumption screen, but not the average mpg or distances.

You do not have to start over, the screen just grays out until you reset the switch then you can pick up where you left off.
