Will I make It up my Driveway?

while waiting for Toyota to decide upon a disable switch, what's the safe way to get out of the way if VSC turns on? Trucks are definitely a concern on two of the highways I travel. I will leave the PRIUS home if I know for sure the weather will turn bad, but just in case, I don't want to sit there, wondering what do I do now?

Don't get too spooked by this Traction Control discussion. If you live where there is a fair bit of snow or ice on the roads, get a good set of snow tires and I doubt that you'll have any problems. The VSC will not affect your ability to keep moving. I have Michelin X-Ice on my '05 and I think that I would rather have it on really slippery roads than my 4x4 Tundra which also has X-Ice tires. I'm guessing that if the Prius with good snow tires ever grinds to a halt because of the traction control, there won't be any other vehicles moving-especially trucks.

I too would like to see a way to override the traction control, but in the meantime I'll be happy with good snow tires and a can of kitty litter.

I second that. Once I put my Dunlop Graspic DS-2 winter tires on, this ceased to be an issue. My Prius will now easily move through a foot of snow, and ice is no longer the concern it once was.

 

And being Canadians (living in igloos, owning sled dogs, needing to snowshoe out to the Prius, etc.), Jayman and I should know, EH!

 

Thanks for the reassurance. but I think I'll keep the Prius parked as much as possible in inclement weather. It wouldn't be worth the cost of snow tires for the occasional trip. Which brings up another question I will need to post, does winter storage affect the batteries?
