Unless some of those other cars were also Priuses I don't think your observation means anything. How do you know that the shape of the Prius and the slope of the hood and windshield by themselves aren't the reason for the fewer bug splats?

I think that's where I purchased mine and the UPS shipping charges were nearly as much as the deflector itself. But maybe that's the problem, mine was shipped via UPS. How was yours shipped?

I am sure those of you in the US can order the hood deflector from your local Toyota dealership since it is a genuine Toyota Part. I know because it says Toyota on the hood deflector and it is very easy to install and it come with directions.

    Cheers Mike

I emailed the Toyota dealer in Langley, BC and just got a response back....

    "HI there,

The Prius hood deflectors ar $70.00, however due to their size, we are unable to ship them. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Steve Jones
    Parts Manager
    Langley Toyota"

This is such a strange reason to give me, for its been shipped before, for $45 to Mike.
I guess my next question will be to them..."How much will you ship if for?"

I was not planning on calling my local dealership, because I tried ordering the mudguards from them, and I was told that its not an available part in the East Coast Region.

I think I might have bought mine through MetroToyota. But I think they were selling through eBay. Try eBay to see if there are any. Yes, shipping is amost as much as the deflector. But they are cheaper than clear bra and I think they're as effective if not more so than the faux leather bras.

I also called the local Toyota dealer here and they told me they would not ship to the US, very strange if you ask me.

For those that live near the Canadian border it would be very easy to get one on a day trip.

I am sure as Godiva previously mentioned they should be readily available on Ebay.

    cheers Mike B)

Checked out Ebay and sure enough, there were 5 available through Toyotadepot in Canada. They were selling for $89 plus $25 shipping, not bad.

We just had the local dealer supply and instal the acrylic hood deflector. The deflector had to be ordered and took a couple of weeks. The cost installed by them was $CDN85. Since this is the middle of winter and wewanted to avoid syonechips from the gravel put on the ice we paid them toinstall it. They allowabout 0.5hr for the install.

The dealer put the following statement on the invoice:
"..... does not recommend hood deflectors. May cause wind whistles and/or paint problems" They didn't tell us that when we ordered it. We had bought the Prius from another dealer (import x USA).

Regarding shipping of one to the US - the mail have limitations on the dimensions of a package. This may result in needing to ship by courier - UPS Fedex etc.- which could account for the shipping cost. This fee probably covers customs clearance when it crosses the border. The paperwork needs to be addressed even though there may be no duty/taxes payable.

Also a dealer who lives close to the border may take them over the boarder to ship as a local shipment south of the boarder.

    Hi All,

This is a little OT, but take that hood deflector and move it to the back of the hood, so it comes up over the windscreen, and that might be a good aero mod. Well, maybe not the very shape, but something like it.

Dealers in general know little about the Prius! I have had my hood deflector on for about 6 months and it works great. No wind noise that I can detect up to about 90mph (haven't driven her faster since install). If it is installed correctly, there are thick clear plastic wrap type bumpers underneath the screws that attach the deflector, and silicone pads that rest between hood and deflector.

I have taken my my Prius through carwashes at least 12 times and it comes through fine with the deflector intact and even clean underneath the thing.

It does catch about 70% of the bugs that would hit the hood and it seems less smash into the windshield too! Rocks are unpredictable and strike at random, but I've noted that they either hit the deflector or below, or strike the windshield!

The black (dark smoke actually) looks real classy on my Super White!

Even if that's Canadian dollars, that's still seems a bit high.

    Ordered mine here
    Toyota Parts and Accessories Store

For some reason they only list the product for the 2004 and 2005 Prius. However it should work on all 2004-2008 models. (I hope) mine is a 2008

    $52.50

    + $15.83 shipping

    Total $68.33

FedEx tracking shows delivery date is tomorrow.

It fits perfect. So if you want a decent price $52.50 + shipping to your area you should order soon. There is no indication how long the sale price will last. I hope to clean my Prius tomorrow and post some pics of the new mod.
