Allow me to disagree with you about this statement. Jews know pretty well who Stalin was and how many of their relatives have perished in Gulag (with countless others).
One of the example is how the members of Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee, who rallied their American brethren during the WWII to support Red Army with their donations were executed in 1948 - 1952.

Both Hitler and Stalin were evil. However, only Hitler had the mass production, assembly line, efficient death factories.

How many of Stalin's victims had their hair used to stuff pillows after they were slaughtered, their skins tanned and turned into lampshades and their body fat processed into soap?

How many of Stalin's victims were babies, toddlers and children?

I could go on and on and on.

There was a difference. Hitler was in a class of his own. Anyone who is in denial does not know history.

    Perfectly said.

Thank you Jack Kelly for what you said too. The only point you made that I diagree with is saying that the Squid is a "shallow" anti-semite. Actually, I would have agreed with you after his initial statements...but then came his European story! Anyone who would ask a European traveler if they had visited a concentration camp, rather then ask them they had visited the hundreds and hundreds of beautiful and historical sites in Europe is a little more focused on that dark part of history then a "shallow anti semite".

I also do not believe that there are varying degrees of anti-semetism...you either are or aren't!

I have not been on the forum for that long, but I can say that I am very surprised by the harsh talk used by Squid and some of the others. I thought this was supposed to be a fun place to gather and talk Prius and other issues...not one to breed hatred and stir the pot in this way.

I would ask Danny and the moderators if this was their intent as well. Why do we need people who harbor this much hatred? Even if people, like Squid, are just "BS"ing us will this stuff and think that this is just a big game, they have to realize that some people take subjects like this very hard they have to know when enough is enough.

Ok, see, here is where you start making assumptions and letting your mind wander into what YOU think happened...

This is actually a great psychological exercise, I blurt out a statement, and see how people "build" their own stories around it...

Look at the above quote, read it a few times, and see just how presumptuous it is. Do you really think there is no real other reasonable reason to ask someone if they've visited Auschwitz? PARTICULARLY if it was said they were "bopping" around Europe?

Better yet, seems like you'd rather have it ignored and not discussed by focusing on other more "hundreds and hundreds of beautiful and historical sites in Europe". Does this mean it should be fogotten, swept under the rug, bypassed for the Swiss Alps???

Plenty. To sort of make a statement there were none, or few in relative comparison is not only BS, but marginalization of the fact.

If you're going to make an accusation like that, I challenge you to prove anything I have written that isn't a disagreement, contrary point of view towards the Israeli's/Jews, but rather hateful and discriminatory towards them. Post up for all to see, where exactly you believe the anti-Semitism is, as opposed to disagreements or counter positions. Show us the money Jack! ;)

    that's right!

Just think, this whole thing started because of a domestic relationship issue between a husband and wife.

It's been a while since I've actually discussed the story with anyone, but here's the meat and potatoes of, arguably, the entire issue in the mid-east/WORLD, for which we've all been paying the price ever since:

The story goes something like this:

    Man and wife.
Wife does not bear children for some reason.
    Man sends wife into exile.
Man finds new woman to have child with.
Wife in exile comes back suddenly able to bear child.

    Hey Squid,

You may or may not really be anti-semetic, but using the same language, arguments, etc. as those who are makes it hard to tell the difference. Also, you are on a public forum, where others, with less complicated minds may take you too seriously and build on your rhetoric.

I know you like to make others squirm (like the person you made fun of his meds), but in some cases it is just not cool.

We are trying to explain to you that the comparisons you have used (Nazis) and the subjects you bring up (asking a British Jew if they have visited Auschwitz) are not ones that sit well with Jews (and others effected)...especially in this context. Give us these concessions, and I think we can come to an understanding. The olive branch is extended towards you.

We want to have a great discussion about the Middle East and what can be done, but bringing in some of that subject matter...you had to have known how hurtful that would be (and if not, you do now).

Please, lets try to make this a place where we can all look towards the future and ways to end these conflicts instead of bringing in the past. The past only opens old wounds and causes great pain.

I hope that we can close this wrongway thread down and start a new more positive one...anyone second that motion?

You might be right - I might not be able to bring myself to hurt him. As you say, though, losing everything puts the world in a different perspective. I think I damn well would shoot the man who was about to bulldoze my house with my family inside. I don't think I'll ever know, and I'm thankful. I don't know what choices I would make if everything and everyone I'd ever had were wiped out because of an age-old grudge. I know that my bottom of the barrel just doesn't take me down to killing children.

You asking this made me think long and hard about the 'terrorist activities' I might support if Florida was occupied or something, and I lost everything. I can't rule out the possibility of kamikaze stunts - as pacifistic as I am in my nice sheltered life, I have a strong belief in defending what matters, and if that's all I thought I had left to offer up... It really is a possibility, I guess. What wouldn't be a possibility would be my acting against civilians, and kids in particular. I can justify moving against military installations, or occupying forces... but not skyscrapers and tube stations and buses and hotels.

I sure am glad that I'll never(fsm willing) have to make choices like that, and that my childhood experience was such that I value innocence.

This is where I must disagree. Just because it doesn't sit well with the Jews, and various others, effectively equates to censorship of pure thoughts and ideas. The world does not revolve around them, or any other demographic, race, color, religion, etc., and I am all about 100% open communication, no matter how ugly it might be to anyone else. Regardless, on top of that, no matter what you say, someone, somewhere is going to take offense. I will grant you the concession that it, in fact, does not sit well. I do not, however, feel the need to apologize or "take back" anything I have written, or more importantly, be in any way prohibited from making such statements people might find offensive at a future time. I do, however, respect (although completely disagree with :D ) the general viewpoint from the mods, and others, that the personal attacks should cease. Personally, I love a good bitch out fest, but most people on here don't, so I'm in the vast minory category on that one, and will accept it as such. :)

    :)

Actually, I have an idea on how we can end this whole mid-east Jew/Arab thingy...

Obvisously, sharing the holy land is out of the question, HOWEVER, why not get all the top clerics and rabbi's together, and "fix" the problem where it began: the domestic issue between Abraham and Hagar. WHAT IF, those amends could be made at the "religious core" so to speak.....

What do you think of Obadiah Shoher's views on the Middle East conflict?

What do you think of Obadiah Shoher's views on the Middle East conflict? One can argue, of course, that Shoher is ultra-right, but his followers are far from being a marginal group. Also, he rejects Jewish moralistic reasoning - that's alone is highly unusual for the Israeli right. And he is very influential here in Israel. So what do you think?
