:(I just got my Prius less than a month ago...She's white and I call her The Cloud, I love her..Some crazy in an SUV (I think) backed into her at the train station parking lot and left some black marks on the rear bumper. I was able to clean off the black marks, but I think something else happened, which I'm not sure about. There is a ruff area and some brownish discoloration and I can definitely feel the difference between a non bumped area and the damaged area...Does anyone know what that is, and how I can get rid of it..I'm a girl and have no clue what to do! I don't want to get the whole bumper redone..but are there any quick fixes..Any help would be more than appreciated..

    Thanks!

Pictures would help us figure out what is going on.

I would suggest taking it to a body shop for a free estimate. Ask the professionals what their opinions are on the discoloration. Then search on the internet for a DIY solution.

    Insurance?

Without seeing photos, I'm guessing that the scratches went thru the paint and you are seeing the bumper cover material under the paint.

I was hit from behind before I made my 2nd payment on the Prius last year. They had to remove and repaint the bumper cover. It cost just under $600 to fix it. Now you cannot tell that it was ever damaged and it has a lifetime warranty from the body shop.

The bumper is plastic. I have scuffs on my rear left bumper (no idea how it got there and whether someone scratched it while pulling out or maybe I did?)

It's black underneath and shouldn't discolour (I mean, it's plastic).

Yes, the body shop that I went to is one of the shops that the Toyota dealer sends there cars to. But the bumper cover (the outside piece) is very similar to the part on most other late model cars, so any good body shop should be able to repair it.

The bumper cover is made of plastic, so I think that the discolored area you are seeing is probably the color of the plastic material under the paint and primer.

To repair this, they will remove the whole bumper cover from the car, use body filler to fill in the deep scratches, sand it smooth, spray primer, color coat and clear coat on top and then replace the part on the car. If they match the color correctly, you won't be able to tell that it was ever damaged.
