I'm genuinly intrigued and I do not mean this in an insulting way , everyone has thier own opinions and preferances but honestly what attracts you to a car that isn't good looking, isn't nice inside, is slow, doesn't have a great spec list and most importantly tends to be driven by people who smugly drive around and actually think thier driving a Prius is making any differance at all to climate change.

'Cause it gets almost 20mpg better mileage then my corolla.

    20 X $3 = $60 :D

The math is probably wrong, but those who have seem my other posts, know it is not my stong point...

I have driven one and found myself pretty underwhelmed by the experience, as I said how I described it above is how I view the car and you guys and girls obviously have a reason for liking it and that's fair enough but I just can't understand it myself, in the US I know small diesels arn't as popular but in Europe there are many smaller diesels which can equal or better the Prius on fuel economy, perform better and cost less too.

I actually like the interior of the Prius, the layout of the controls and storage compartments. I don't find the exterior all that great but it's growing on me. Oh and I am by no means a tree hugger but the high price of gas prompted me to get the prius and I am very happy with my purchase. Most likely I'll be trading in my wife's Versa for another Prius next year.

Is it really that unbeliveable that someone might not actually like it as a car?, by the way have you actually been to Europe do you know anything about thier small Diesels or are you just assuming that a non Hybrid couldn't possibly beat it in the fuel economy stakes?.

I know it's a troll, but really, there are no "small diesels" that match the Prius... certainly none with the interior space, auto xmission, and specs... and reliability... whatever, I know... troll.

So you want us to drive a Lupo instead?

In Europe, you drive a diesel cause it's cheaper to own (company tax benefits), fuel is slightly cheaper (or was. I think now ULSD is more expensive than regular fuel) and well economical.

Sure they're tons of small diesel cars with 1.2 or 1.4 litre turbodiesels that can match the Prius in fuel economy but they're in the A segment. The Prius is a D segment car. Who would want an Avensis sized car with Golf TDI economy? (I know there's an Avensis diesel but the CO2 emission and mpg are still higher than the Prius).

Plus it's high tech. Can you get a smart key, navigation, bluetooth, HIDs and backup camera in a Lupo?? I think Lupo options are limited to alloys, A/C and a radio CD.

Oh wait, the Lupo isn't made anymore. A pity. At least you have the Brazilian Fox.

OMG, you're RIGHT! Tomorrow, first thing, I'm gonna sell my Prius and buy myself a Hummer! Thank you for making me realize my huge mistake!

I don't drive a diesel but if I was to buy a car for economy it wouldn't be a Prius.

Petrol & Diesel Fuel Powered Cars Guide

If you look on that part of the site there are a few cars around the same as the Prius on fuel economy.

This seems to be a pretty common thread among Prius-bashers:

"The Prius doesn't have the interior of a Lexus. It doesn't look like a Corvette on the outside. Its fuel economy isn't better than a Smart ForTwo. It doesn't have the cargo space of a pickup truck. What a terrible car!"

To me, the Prius represents the best currently-available combination of interior, exterior and fuel economy (plus lots of neat gizmos and the versatility of a hatchback that's got tons of leg and headroom.)

I've drunk fine wine, I've been to ballet, I've seen priceless paintings, and I've listened to classical music. I did not enjoy it all.

Likewise, I've been in many cars that I simply did not enjoy.

    • Isn't good looking: Some buy for fashion, I bought for function.
    • Isn't good inside: I find it quite comfortable and functional.
    • Is slow: I drive the interstates around Chicago regularly and beg to differ.
    • Doesn't have a great spec list: what are you drunk?
    • The last one: I can' speak for others' personal opinions of themselves, but I know that 18% of the oil imported in to the United States in 2006 came from Canada, 14% from Mexico, 10.8% from Venezuela, 10.4% from Saudi Arabia. A total of 43% from all OPEC countries combined. Climate change or no climate change, we give way too much money to other countries. U.S. Total Crude Oil and Products Imports
I personally like the Prius. You can question my opinion, but you will not change it.

I'll give yo uthe Lexus and the Corvette. But the ForTwo does not have the mileage or low emissions of the Prius.

ForTwo was probably a bad example...was just looking for a tiny car that gets good mileage; I failed on the good mileage part.

On a related note, none of those cars on the posted list of diesels had FE equal to the Prius.

There are two versions of the Prius on that site one comes in at 65.7MPG, the VW Polo comes in at 74.3 MPG and the BMW 1 series gets pretty close at 62.8.

Popular Mechanics just had an informative write-up on the coming "Green" Diesels from Europe BUT they won't be here for some time yet.
In the meantime, I am enjoying my new Prius which I actually do Like, whether you do or not.:loco: :boink:

    Not at all.
Some are turned off because it is not the size of an SUV.
Some don't like it because its not the equal of a sports car in acceleration.
Some don't like its aesthetics. (whatever!)
Others complain just because its not made in the good ol' USA.

Me personally, I like that the Prius is a normal size CAR . . . it's comfortable, even on long trips.
I don't need or want the acceleration of a sport car.
    I like its shape.
    The gas mileage is great!
And, I consider the fact that the Prius pollutes less is a major bonus.

Of all the cars I've owned, the Prius is by far my favorite.

So . . . do you have a problem that I actually DO like Prii?
