Whaddya mean I can't....

Here's a smartkey question....

Suppose I have my smartkey in my bag...I put the bag in the car from the apssenger seat and walk around to the driver's door...any chance of getting locked out at all?

Or I leave my briefcase in the car when I get out at work and walk around to passenger side?

With the car off and key in car, will it lock up?

 

There is no key, so no, you have to push the button on the Remote or the door to lock the car up, but I believe if it senses you put the Smart Remote in the slot and are trying to lock the doors, it won't let you. Is that right?

 

I think that is correct....it will give you a long beep to warn you.

 

I know that it's correct, as I've had the experience of not being able to lock the car because a key was left inside.

 

How do you activate the smartkey system?

My dealer told me to put the key in, and start the vehicle while pressing the button under the steering wheel. That didn't work. Any advice?

I need an owner's manual, that's what I get for buying used.

So you close the door, lock it....wait 3-5 seconds and then it can unlock as the key is "near"?

 

If you try to lock the car with the key fob in the car, the car will warn you with a long beep and will not lock the doors.

However, there are some areas where the RF signal may be too weak to be detected and/or there is interference so the key fob is not detected by the SKS. I know this because on a trip, I had one fob and my GF had the other fob. She left her bag behind the front passenger seat in the car. At one stop, I was able to lock the car with the door handle button (my fob was on my belt loop). At a different stop, I was not able to lock the door until I figured out that she had left the fob attached to her bag.

So, normally you can't lock the fob in the car, but don't count on it.
