Anybody dropped by the Sony Store today and took a look at the OLED TV?

I thought it was pretty nice. It's ridiculously thin (3mm!!!) and quite sharp. Even the XBR Qualias that they have can't match the clarity of the tiny little 11" OLED TV.

Its native resolution is half definition at 960x540 (so half of 1080). 2 HDMI ports that accept 1080p. It runs on 60MHz and weighs 1.9kg. Tuners include NTSC, CATV, ATSC and Clear QAM (I haven't heard of the last one before). Has the same light sensor as other LCD Bravias.

There's NO component video input or composite and S-Video for that matter. It does have fibre optic in (digital audio optical).

The speakers aren't that great at 2W total (1W each side). Didn't even see where the speakers were.

But hey, this is just the first one. We'll see how it progresses to the larger sizes.

I have not seen one yet but would defantly get one when the size/price/features are right.

Clear QAM is what cable company's are supposed to use for their "basic" cable service so when digital fully rolls out you wont have to rent a cable box for basic service. DCR or Digital Cable Ready is another way you could get by without renting a cable box but you have to buy or rent a cable card for that. My cable company only has the locals and a few other stations on clear QAM. Plus the signal is very low so the digital picture brakes up a bit.

I only read about it, but the technology is supposed to be amazing. Not only are they about 100x thinner than LCD screens, they consume a fraction of the electricity AND (this part surprised me), the picture is actually better in some aspects. I think it can display 10x the colors of an LCD or something like that. Wave of the future for sure.

It will be cool to have a TV that requires picture frame wire to hang on a wall instead of a big steel mount!

ahh ok thanks! So it's sorta like what tv used to be before all this satellite and cable box came around and made 99 channel-capable tvs and PiPs useless lol.

Up here, that 11" is Cdn$2,500

I'm surprised it's launched here first before the US. Are you sure you guys don't have it at your stores?

The 11" model runs at 34W at its lowest consumption rate. The picture is AMAZING. You have to see it for yourself.

Samsung Electronics is showcasing two (14.1-and 31-inch) organic light-emitting diode OLED-TVs.
Dr. Jongwoo Park, president of Digital Media business, Samsung Electronics commented that OLED is seen as a contender to be at the center of the future display market mainstream given its very high resolution, and light weight.
