My friend has 2 Priuses. One 2004, one 2005.

The 05 has this doodad in the trunk to the left rear of the drive battery. What is it for?

If for the HV battery, why is there not one in his 2004 Prius?

Hmm. My 2004 doesn't have one, at least not that I know of. Now I have doodad envy.

    Here's a bit more info.
The 05 has smartkey, 04 does not.
Maybe the doodad is related to smartkey?

It's a tracking device so the UN can track your whereabouts and transmit the information to the aliens preparing to take over the world.

But seriously folks! ;). I think its the service cut out for the main battery. It is mentioned somewhere in the users manual that the service cut out is to the left of the main battery.

No, the service cut-out is an orange device. You slide the lever then lift the lever to remove the orange service cut-out (which contains a very large fuse)

It is a "Hummer" sensor - when that beast is nearby the Prius reduces its consumption and transmits the fact to the Hummer to make it jealous :boink:
