But Jimmy, to each his own. A car is a very personal choice. No matter what you drive, I hope you like it as much as we all like our Priuses (is that the proper plural of Prius?).

    No, it's Prioria!

It's unfortunate that some people still think like you do. Most environmentalists are actually working to help human's long term survival and prosperity. The Earth will continue with or without us so it is not the earth we are trying to save. Have you taken any classes on the subject?

Really ... I'm with you. Best to wait until the day before "The End" ... Right? Monyana, I always say.

Spanish singer Julio Iglesias was on television with British TV host Anne Diamond when he used the word 'manyana'. Diamond asked him to explain what it meant. He said that the term means "maybe the job will be done tomorrow, maybe the next day, maybe the day after that. Perhaps next week, next month, next year. Who cares?" The host turned to Irishman Shay Brennan who was also on the show and asked him if there was an equivalent term in Irish. "No. In Ireland we don't have a word to describe that degree of urgency.", replied Brennan.

Too learn about Hybrid technology and to see if it's really worth all the efforts.

I've been in the Army since i was 18 and I don't see much or read much about topics discussed here.

Well, seeking knowledge is never a bad thing, that's for sure. Are you into studying technology, in general, or just different kinds of cars?
Thanks, by the way, for your years of service. :usa2: Ever been in Hawaii (I think Schofield is base there, right)? My ex is in the Navy, so I lived in HI & Maryland back in those days. Loved Hawaii!

Speaking of my ex, last night, I was showing him my new Prius (only 4 days old) and he drove it around the block to check it out. It was funny because he kind of smugly said, "Well, that's all fine and good, but what about this?" He then hit the gas really hard, attempting to make note of the lack of power he thought it had. Well, when the car took off on command, that shut him right up. Quite amusing....

Question for everybody: My MPG average in these four days is 46.9. Is that fairly normal?

You picked a great car and chat group for exploring hybrid technology. I thought I knew some things about Toyota's hybrid synergy drive (HSD) but what I learned from the Priuschat members and just curiousity about my Prius has really blown me away. The Prius is an awesome feat of engineering. I would recommend looking over the technical thread section and be ready to get overwhelmed. PC members have all kinds of backgrounds-- from electrical engineer to dishwasher and everything in between. You will find electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and philosophical discussions on the smallest detail.

I have to warn you -- learn too much about the Prius and you will probably want to sell one of your trucks. ;) If you are genuinely curious then the PC members will chat your ears off -- just ask nicely because quite a few people come to Priuschat to just bash a car that Consumer Reports says has the most owner loyalty. Oh, and don't get sucked into Fred's House of Politics -- it has nothing to do with the Prius and some of the folks there will just wind you up for fun. I love the folks at Priuschat but started using the "IGNORE" function with dbermanmd.

I would then welcome you, could tell that you weren't trying to "troll" here but was curious about your motivation. And thank you for your service to our country. As Jack66 has stated, there's a lot of knowledge and expertise to be found here. When I bought my Prius back in December I had been thinking about doing so for more than a year, but learning about this forum and reading the member's comments pushed me over the final hurdle! And as Jack warned, you might want to start ratholing money right now, if you stick around here long you will buy a Prius.

What's a troll? Those little pencil top things with a bubble but on it and wicked hair? LOL

I most likely will not buy any vehicle for about 10 years. I'm about to do another tour in Iraq so my vehicles will be parked at home. I plan to put another 8 years in the Army.

Of course, many on the site only own a Prius.

I own a bunch of other vehicles which allow me to contrast them with the Prius. Of course, they have their attributes as well.

Maybe I need a bumper sticker that says "my other car is a Prius" to attach to them ?

I collect military vehicles - a buddy has a Korean War vintage Walker Bulldog Tank - it weighs 47,000#, and it gets 3 gallons-to-the-mile. We don't take it out much.....

There are many people that the one-size-fits-all vehicle doesn't apply. We need to "haul stuff" or "tow stuff", or we need to climb mountains or blast through huge snow drifts, or ford raging rivers. Those that have only one vehicle make do with their best choice, for whatever their reasons are.

But for what the Prius IS, a mid-sized comfortable car with great engineering and a lot of value in its fuel economy, I think it is superb.
I'm not going to expect it to tow my 45' equipment trailer, but then I don't expect my Freightliner to get 50+ MPG.

I would have to agree. Jimmie84's heart is in the right place when you chat with him.

Jimmie, I need to add three items to our PM the other day. The power split device http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-technical-discussion/18797-power-split-device-innards.html, the Atkinson cycle engine http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-main-forum/43441-atkinson-vs-otto-cycle.html, and the five stages of Prius hybrid operation http://www.techno-fandom.org/~hobbit/cars/five-stages.txt

These three threads will get to some of the more interesting things about the Prius. One other piece of technology the Prius uses that is being copied to good effect by other automakers is stopping the engine when the car stops then starting it up again. It doesn't seem like much but think about all the gas wasted at a long light and your MPG is zero.

Good "talking" with you the other night.

    Jack

It was good talking to you also Jack! So do you actually feel the engine turn off and back on?
