How do I reset the check engine light?

The MFD receives 12V power through three fuses all located in the driver's side junction box: ACC, ECU-B, and ECU-IG.

The radio receiver receives 12V power through two fuses: ACC, and DOME (the DOME fuse is in the relay/fuse box next to the inverter.)

May I ask why you are trying to cut power to the MFD and the radio?

To reset the CEL, the easiest approach is to disconnect the negative battery terminal, or else disconnect the positive wire under the jump start terminal in the relay/fuse box next to the inverter.

 

You have GOT to be kidding! You have to remove a fuse to reset the DVD to force a reload? Yikes!

I love my Prius, and I think Toyota is a brilliant car company, but this is sheer stupidity! If they cannot add a $1 button to take care of this, surely they could at least afford to add a few lines of code to the MFD program to do the trick.

(OK, I grant that this is not a frequently needed function, but c'mon, Toyota! You missed a real chance to show your brilliance by thinking of even these small details. And blew it.)

Hi Doug,

Since you now have two goals to reset the CEL and the nav computer, I suggest you disconnect the 12V battery. You will need a suitable box or open-end metric wrench to disconnect the negative battery terminal, or a metric socket set and ratchet wrench to disconnect the positive jump start terminal at the main relay/fuse box.

The 12V battery is located in the hatch, passenger-side, under the triangular shaped trim piece in the hatch floor. If you choose to disconnect the battery, it would probably be easier to disconnect the negative terminal wire that leads to the body of the car, instead of trying to disconnect the terminal connector from the battery's negative terminal which is hard to reach when the battery is in place.

If you choose to disconnect the positive jump terminal at the main relay/fuse box, to open the box press hard on the latch on the leading edge of the box, then lift the leading edge of the lid up. Then you can remove the lid from the box. Note the large red cover in the upper left corner of the box. That covers the jump terminal. Open the cover, then remove the nut on the terminal and lift up the wire.

For future reference when you want to reset the NAV computer, first make the Prius IG-OFF. Then pull the DOME fuse in the relay/fuse box near the inverter, and wait the prescribed time. That is all that is required to power down the NAV system.
