    Greetings Fellow Prius Owners,

Yep, we did it, yesterday my wife and I bought a 2008, package 2, with the "Magnetic Grey Metallic" color, and the darker (grey?) cloth interior.

I'd love to go on and on about how we love it, and I am sure that we do/will, but only having had it for less than 24 hours, can't say much yet. Looking forward to a 3-hour trip coming up in a short while, and also a 7 & 1/2 hour drive a week or two after that. For me, that will be the first real "tests" of how much we do, or do not, like the car. Excited? You bet!

This newbie forum seems to be an introduction place, so a little about us and; "why a Prius?"

We're a married couple in our mid to late 30's who currently live in Oakland, CA. Used to live in San Francisco, but made the welcome move across the bay to where the people are much more friendly, more relaxed, the streets are cleaner, the city is better run, rents are lower, and there is only perhaps one homeless person per 40 block radius instead of the other way 'round like in SF.

No kids, and our cat doesn't care to take car rides, so we basically needed a car which helps support our hobby (yeah, we also have day jobs too); independent original stage theatre productions. Comedies only. Our last car, a '99 Subaru Forester we bought for many of the same reasons as the Prius. We need to move people (actors) and stuff (sets, props, etc.) easily and efficiently (for big stuff we have to rent trucks anyway). We needed/wanted a four-door for ease of drop off, at least five seats, and a car that was both comfortable as it easy to park in narrow, nearly non-existent parking spots in San Francisco. I believe the Prius is actually shorter than our Subaru was, and yet, we've already found that the back seat provides more leg room and comfort for passengers.

After having had the Subaru for 9 years, we always said that if anything ever happened to it, that we'd consider getting a Hybrid. Well, recent repairs would be more than the Subaru was worth (and that money would certainly be enough for a down payment on a new car), so it was time. Did a lot of research, looked around, tried cars out, talked it over with friends and co-workers, and Yes, Prius is/was the best choice going for our needs.

Looking forward to a great many years with this car. As soon as we know its personality, we'll be able to give him/her/it a name.

I'm certain there is a forum for this out there, but so far we have not/did not buy the extended 7-year warranty. How about the rest of you newbies? Any other Prius members want to chime in on whether they feel it is needed?

Hope I get to try driving the car again tonight. I use public transit for work, so we'll see what my wife has to say about her first commute day with the Prius. Thanks, and good to be amongst you all.

I am not really a newbie, but just a head up if you decide to buy the warrantee, you can buy it here on PriusChat for about $900. Even at that price though, I decided to take my chances with Prius reliability. Only major recurring problem I have heard of a lot of people having was with the Multi Function Display on the 2004 models. I think they have the big kinks worked out now.

Congrats to you DadaCheese (and MamaCheese?) and to the cat. Welcome to PriusChat where you can learn everything about your car. Most people here are very helpful and nice, so you have come to the right place. Hopefully you will love it, and with the rear seats down, you can haul a lot of stuff.

I haven't bought the extended warranty, yet. I am waiting until my current 3 yr/36000 mile warranty nears ending.

    Post photos!

Congrats ... I have the same in Touring ....

And especially congrats on your hobby...My wife and I have been involved with community theater for about 50 years .... it has kept stress away from work and provided countless laughs for many, many audiences. I've had the lead or major role in around 60 plays ... mostly comedies.....

Just finished playing a German accented psychiatrist in Harold and Maude, an hysterically funny, sad and moving black comedy...

Yes, 76 year old actors can still find parts ....

    good luck with your Prius...:)

Nah; from California, but am a nut for a few things, including dADaIsm and cheese. Sure, have a LOT of knowledge about cheese, but consider myself kind of a informed connoisseur more than a cheese snob.

My day-job is in IT (support, primarily), so if any of you know of a really good IT job (or project management, or marketing even) in the cheese industry/for a cheese producer, please let me know. Oh, also fluent in German, so that could help for import/distribution jobs too if you have one for me.

    Thanks!

    Kurt Schwitters "Perhaps Strange"

The world is full of goods trains
    The passengers are cows
    And milk and butter.
    And cheese and lovely marmelade
    And bulls and horses,
    And cocks and hens.
The cow is mother to the milk,
And grandma both to cheese and butter.
The cheese is cousin to the marmelade.
The horse is cousin to the cock
    The hen lays eggs.
The egg is cousin to the cheese and butter,
The son and daughter of the milk.
    Isn't it strange?
    It is.

I returned the warranty they sold me at the dealer when I heard about this one for $900. Theirs was $2700. I haven't bought it yet. I wouldn't except that this is a hybird. Still thinking about it. I have 2500 miles on my 2008 touring. Hope the price dosen't go up while I am making up my mind.

Welcome to Priuschat and congrats on your new Prius. I have the same package and color as you, is that like having the same zodiac sign?
