Sorry, but I am a total noob, have read coastal's site and numerous threads and still cannot figure out the answer to this basic question:

do I need other hardware to play dvds on the screen if I have NAV? or is this somehow "unlocking" the dvd drive normally used for maps so it can be used for this purpose?

    thanks

In addition to unlocking the Nav and Phone functions while in motion, it gives you an Audio and Video Input.

It allows you to ADD a DVD player or Video iPod and connect it to the back of the MFD to play on your MFD/Stereo.

Well, if you want to see a video of this thing in action, go to their website. In particular, go here:

    LOCKPICK 3

Scroll down and look for the embedded video at the bottom of the page. I gotta admit, I'm very impressed. Oh, and you may want to make sure to view the page in Internet Explorer. For some reason it wouldn't appear in my firefox.

My only question is, will this lockpick or ANY ipod/iphone to prius conversion work on a basic model prius? I don't have a nav system in my car and am very hesitant to blow $200+ on any type of conversion kit if it won't work with my LCD screen.

I noticed that the Nav system models usually have different touch screen menus than the basic model priuses. However, in the video shown by the coastaletech guys, they have the same shell/GUI system that I have in my basic Prius model. However, I'm still skeptical.

I've e-mailed them about a half hour ago asking if it's compatible with all Priuses. If I hear anything back, I'll let you all know. If it is, I will definitely buy the conversion kit and post up my results/pics once I get it.

If anyone knows about this thing working on base model Priuses though, please let me know!

    Thanks.

By the way, jhall, I looked at your signature. Do you have headrest LCDs on your car? I considered getting those for mine as well eventually. I would also be curious to know if you could hook those up to the lockpick 3 stuff. That way I don't need to get a DVD player for the car, just stream my iphone's video/movies to the LCD screens in the back.

I am in the same boat with my Iphone and pkg 2 prius. Please post what you find out. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to 'borrow' the LCD screen in the prius to watch movies and such.

I don't have it, but in the very same page that you linked to, just above the video:

"HAVE A SCREEN BUT DON'T HAVE NAV? NO PROBLEM. The ULTIMATE LOCKPICK 3 will still UNLOCK THE VIDEO AND AUDIO INPUTS OF YOUR BASIC SCREEN. This can allow you to install your own navigation or multi-media system even in basic factory vehicles."

I would like to know if you have to take the dash apart and install anything like on the EV mod. Do you have to run wires as well, they are very unclear on this.
I'd appreciate someone whose done this to post some instructions.
    Thanks

I just installed the lockpick on my 2008 with nav and it works. but I have no color and have recieved no response from caostal. I would believe that it works with any Prius with or with out nave.

Please let us know if they pay you the proper customer service needed to solve the no color situation you described.

Still no customer service from Coastal. Eveything now works with my I Touch, the 5th gen I pod works but goes to Black and White in about 5 minutes. You can do nav while moving you can dial numbers while moving, you can transfer your call from the car to your phone while moving. So now I use the I touch and I am in love with the product but no customer service at all. Greg

All I want to be able to do is put in a destination while moving and change the phone settings while moving. I really don't need or want to watch movies while I drive. Which version of Lockpick will do the phone and nav alone?
    Thanks

I have been following the speed senor defeat thread with interest. I'm just not crazy about cutting wires in the dash. I like the idea of being able to plug in a device that allows full function and can be removed later by simply unpluggin it. It also appears that the lockpick allows the nav screen to continue to function while the speed senor switch temporarily disables nav and requires the switch to be used every 30 seconds while inputting a destination. (I know, I know, 30 seconds is a really long time):clock:
    Thanks for the suggestion.

Understand. In that case I think the Blue Lockpick1 should do the trick, for only $149.
