    Hey everyone,

    I was curious to know how long people who had applied both to the Ontario Ministry of Revenue for the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Tax Rebate and the ecoAUTO Program had waited for their cheques to arrive in the mail?

    I'll be dropping my forms in the mail first thing in the morning (and being aware that it's Christmas/New Years) and was wondering how long I should expect to wait? 4-6 weeks? ;-)

    Thanks,

    MAB

    I bought my Prius in April 2007 - had to wait until about 1 October until the Feds even had an application form available !
    I sent in my application 2 Oct, and received a letter to say they had received my application, dated 12 Oct.
    I phoned them and they said it can take 8-10 weeks after the date of the confirming letter. It's now 11 weeks. I guess I'll phone again.
    I wonder if they'll pay me interest backdated to April - ha ha.....
    (I received my $2000 Quebec rebate months ago.)

    Good luck on getting that interest. LOL. Talk about trying to bleed a stone. I expect it to take about 6-8 weeks, but based on other people's experiences, I could be in for a long haul.

    I called the Feds again this week. They said to wait until the end of January, and then to call again if I haven't received it. That would make it 4 months after I sent in the application !
    What a bunch of crooks. I'm sure if I owed them $2000 for so long they would have charged me all kind of penalties.

    Winger, did you ever receive a confirmation letter before the cheque?

    Thanks.

    Received my rebate on 30 Jan, so took about 4 months from when I sent the application. (I bought the car in April 2007 and it took them 5 months to come up with an application form!)
    I sent an e-mail to the Transport Minister complaining that they did not pay any interest.

    I bet they get a good laugh out of that one. Maybe even print it out and post it on the wall. :rolleyes:

    I've sent in my ecoAUTO rebate application back in first week of Dec 2007. I haven't received any confirmation letter or cheques yet. I'm still waiting. Judging from other people's response in this email, I guess I still have a few more months to wait!

    I bought my Prius on Dec 13, 2007. Sent application one weeks after and already received confirmation letter (one week ago).

    Hi all, first post I would like it to be meaningful. So I want to know about the rebates that are currently available to Ontario residents. March 2008, has the Ontario rebate finished/started, where do you get forms? Has the Federal gov't started to send out cheques yet, and where do you get forms? I have been lurking for a few days, and have not seen anywhere posted where the Ontario gov't is thinking about green lic plates. Any posts I did not find, will any of you be getting them? :)

    I got my $2K refund from them in 2-3 weeks. The Feds are slow and anyone waiting for that should receive theirs by the time they need a downpayment for their next car. :dance:
    Good luck,

    I'll track how long it takes to get the Federal rebate - I get my car tomorrow, so I'll send in the form on Tuesday.

    Just wanted to close the loop on this.
    Bought Prius on Dec 13/2007.
    Sent application a week after (~Dec 20/2007).
    Got cheque on mail today March 25/2008.

    --> ~90 days.

    For those of you who have received your $2k rebate from ecoAUTO, did your bill of sale specify the following:
    • whether the vehicle is a hybrid;
    • the engine size (litre size) of vehicle;
    • the number of cylinders of the vehicle;
    • the transmission type of the vehicle: manual, automatic or continuously variable;
    • the fuel type: indicate if the vehicle is equipped to use gasoline, flex fuel (combination of gasoline and ethanol) or diesel;
    The current info on the ecoAUTO site says this is required on the bill of sale; however, my bill of sale contained room for no such information. I sent the rebate application anyway with a cover letter and included the bill of sale, registration and factory window sticker which included most of the above (all nicely tied together with the VIN).

    Just wondering if anyone has been rejected because of not enough info on the bill of sale.

    Thanks.

    Gabe,

    Thanks for giving me the heads up on the Ontario RST rebate. I called them and I will be eligible for the $2K rebate. :D

    However, I do not qualify for the ecoAuto rebate since I bought my car in the US. Only cars purchased in Canada are eligible for the ecoAuto rebate.

    Oh well. I'm still ecstatic since I didn't even expect this.

    Now, I need to find the cheapest insurance.

    Thanks again!

    Alex

    While I was on the phone with Ontario Ministry of Transportation, I asked the representative your question. She said for as long as the bill of sale would say "Toyota Prius", they know it's a hybrid car. My guess is the ecoAuto rebate would be the same. I think you should be fine.

    No problem Alex. I knew about the ecoAuto not eligible, nevertheless some people are fighting that one. Remember that the PST "rebate" is a true rebate and if you're eligible you get back what you pay in PST up to a maximum of $2K. As far as insurance go a year ago I switched to President's Choice Financials where I got the cheapest rate. Shop around there are some internet sites that gives you the best rates.
