I'd like to hear from someone who drives the "touring" model. What do notice to be the diff compared to the non-touring model. Is it worth the addtional cost?

for just a little more i think it is worth it (depends on what package you are looking for). it handles better in my opinion and the 16" wheels look better. with the lower packages the touring comes standard with xenon headlights and such.

If you ask for input only from touring owners, you are going to get a mostly self-selected group. You are better off to ask Prius owners as a whole.

The Touring model is only for expert drivers only. Are you an expert?

I agree. The Touring Edition is for experienced race car drivers. ;)

You can take the test at the dealership to find which car would fit you. Some sample questions:

    Do you fly jets?
    A) oh yeah!
    B) nope

    Are you a Stunt Driver?
    A) Oh Yeah!
    B) Nope

Are you a Race Car Driver?
    A) Oh yeah!
    B) Nope

Are you just a better driver then everyone else?
    A) oh yeah!
    B) Nope

If you answered "A" to any question, then the Touring Model is for you! :flame:

    Exbauer,

Thanks for those excellent links (in chronological order).

New question...for the 2008 touring model with package #2 or #3 (haven't yet decided) is there an area on this forum to find out, in my geographic area, what the average price paid has been?

At the top level of the site, if you scan down the page a bit (Past Fred's House of Pancakes) you'll find a forum for comparing prices. Also, you might want to log onto Toyota.com and "build your car" there. It will give you an idea of what options/colors/trimlines are available in your area. For example, in the SF Bay Area, you can only get the touring trimline with package #6. If you want a Spectra Mica Blue Prius, you have to get it in the touring package (again, package #6). This is not true for other parts of the country. So, check it out!

    Jeff,

As you can see from my signature, Touring is the only way to go. I recommend you go to Edmonds.com and price out the car and options you are looking for. They will give you the TMV pricing for your car in your zip code area that others have been paying for the same car/options.

I put 30k on a 2005 Prius. I'm at 25k on a 2007 Touring Prius. It is a stiffer ride and hugs the road better. I love my Prius and it serves me well. I look at my Prius from a long-term perspective (fuel economy, maintenance, sustainability, durability) and am very satisfied. I purchased my 2007 through an auto broker, not a dealer. I do my own maintenance (Mobil 1 synthetic purchased at Costco and Mobil 1 "double" oil filters purchased in quantity via the Internet).

    Jeff,

I test drove both models and found that the Touring Edition Package #6 really suited my aggressive driving style best. It hugged the curves better and had a more connected ride than the Non-Touring Model. I think a lot has to do with the better tires and the suspension. For me, it was worth the extra $1000 bucks.

Wow! You guys are awesome! :grouphug:

This forum is an unexpected goldmine of information. I'll have several more questions in the coming weeks, as I get closer to making my Prius dream a reality.

I'm off on a 2 hour drive. My SUV is thirsty today, to the tune of a $50 fill up. Makes me sick, on so many levels. Anyway, have a great day!
