What is the Value Package Savings ($2000)...

    I saw some new Toyota ads tonight during the final four games. It mentioned the Prius at the end and up to $2000 in value package savings. Does anyone know any details behind this?

    I just bought my prius about 3 weeks ago and it came with that -$2000 extra value package. Does'nt say what it was for on the window sticker. But I got a non touring Spectra Blue Mica, package 5, carpet floor mats, rear bumper applique and the cargo net. Total price was $28,734 minus the $2,000 dollars which came to be $26,734.:D

    I believe it is just another way of giving an incentive for some of the packages on the Prius without calling it an incentive.

    Bought mine last week... The $2000 is shown on the window sticker; the dealer invoice had this knocked off the Package #5 price. So it's not a real incentive, just a lower MSRP.

    I was hopping it wasn't something like this, incentive to buy the higher packages. Around my area (DC) the 2s fly off the lot.

    My recent 2008 purchase on pkg 5/leather touring .. had a similar discount of 1700$. Seems to be ink on paper. The dealer/distributer added some fluff that got it back. They can really print some nice official BS window stickers these days. The dealer took another 1600 off the sticker but the car still was about 30k out the door. I have never gotten a deal on a new car that I truly believe was a GOOD deal. The Prius is loaded up and I really like it (45.8 mpg first tank) but it wasn't inexpensive. I am not really sure how good a good deal is. Every time I purchase a vehicle it seems to be an "in demand" unit. So usually they are not offering much off. If you buy something that most don't want the deals are there. If you like the vehicle and drive it 8 or 10 years 500$ or even $1000 one way or the other seems to melt away. I used to believe used vehicles were a good deal. Again if you want an "in demand" vehicle the used prices are up also. We bought a Honda Accord for our new driver last year and we got a new one for about 800 dollars more than a similar used one that was 2 years old.

    The dealers have most of the cards. We all like to think we got that GOOD deal. I'm sure the dealers have a good laugh every time they skin one of us that got the DEAL. I hope when I am ready to sell this Prius it is not a dinosaur that NO ONE wants.

    prius should hold it's value till something better comes out..which will be a while.

    I believe that this was offered when the tax rebate died, so that it was the same deal for the buyer.

    Pkg 5 & 6 get a $2000 reduction on the sticker ... Pkgs under those two get $600 ... it's really not a deal at all ... seems like they just adjusted the MSRP before taking off the discount.

    Husker is right. On my package 6, the unadjusted MSRP was $30,100. With the Extra Value Package MSRP Discount of $2,000, the net amount was $28,100. It's just an advertising campaign and totally irrelevant, as far as I'm concerned.

    I got my package 6 this Saturday for $25,677 or $300 below the dealer's invoice. It's not the greatest deal; but, still a good one.

    Sounds like a deal to me ... getting a dealer to take more than $500 off here is a problem. I am looking into buying in Cali and flying out to pick it up and then driving home ... save some money and it sounds like fun ... plus the Tourings are a bit more prevalent out there ... when I build one on Toyota's website I can't even get the color I want (Black) in the Touring package.

    Check out CarBuyingTips.com new car buying guide, avoiding dealer scams, new cars, used car buying. Ask every dealer in 100 miles for a quote. If you were buying a Ford or GM you'd get thousands off with this approach - best you can expect for a Prius is a little below invoice (maybe $500 if you're lucky) but this translates to a couple of grand below MSRP (when tax is included). A lot of dealers will swear blind they don't sell Prius's (Prii?!) below invoice, but with enough negotiation you'll get one.

    Just filled up for the first time - 40mpg from tank #1.

    @ La Cucaracha - if you figure you can get a loaded Ford Focus for $17k, the Prius doesn't pay for itself in gas savings. It's more in what moving to hybrids will do for the mass market moving forward.

    Well I wondered the same thing on this, its called the Extra Value Package, Eco-nomic Savings, whatever, doesn't really mean much from what I figured, Toyota puts the savings on the sticker, and dealers try to mark it back up. :eek:

    But none the less, when I could not get an answer from a Toyota dealer, none had a clue, I asked Toyota customer service, here was there answer:


    Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

    We apologize for your confusion over the ECO-nomic Prius saving package.

    Toyota announced on April 4, 2007 this new "ECO-nomic savings bonus"
    incentive on 2007 Toyota Prius resulting in a savings as much as $2,000 on
    certain options packages as Toyota USA was discounting each package from its original MSRP pricing.

    As an example, Package #2 (HG) would now have a new MSRP price of $575 vs it's previous MSRP price of $1175. Package #3 (HI) new MSRP of $2,105 vs it original MSRP pricing of $2,705 and so on up to a package savings that could be up to $2,000 off it original package pricing.

    Thanks for the info! Nice and gray like they like to keep pricing. I wonder if it will actually result in affecting the invoice on the same higher packages. I imagine this is to try and move higher packages as the lower packages seem to be in higher demand/or less availability in my area.
